When the Charger has a full tank (pretty much all the time) and it sits in the sun it will routinely start dripping gas out of the vent tube (vented into the rear frame rail) and on extremely hot occasions out of the gas cap also. Is there a good way to keep this from happening?
Keep the fual tank less than full. Solved.
Heat = expansion = overflowing fuel tank.

our planes have the same problem we adjust the fuel load depending on temp so they dont vent fuel. i havn;t heard of it in cars although i'm sure its possible. same principle.

The way the tank is made on the B bodies it is easy to over fill. There are no air pockets like late model cars for expansion.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Thanks, I understand the concept. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to fix/replace my sending unit so my gas gauge doesn't work (thus I like to keep the tank full). Most of the automatic shutoff gas stations around here will overfill the tank unless I seal the cap with a rag around the gas nozzle (which I do, every time). I'd love to be able to 'hear' when the tank is full and not rely on the nozzle, but with the traffic around our gas stations in town that's not possible. Just looking for some tips to help out. Possibly rigging up a 1 gal gas can in the trunk to collect from the vent line would work, but the last thing I want is a trunk full of gas fumes.

I hate to state the obvious, but fixing the fuel gauge should be your first move IMO. Besides, you'll want to get the fuel level in the tank low enough so that fuel doesn't splash out when you remove the sending unit.
