I am looking for a shaker hood for my barracuda and prefer the AMD hood. It is out of stock and they don’t answer my inquiries about when they will be back in stock. I see I can get a Sherman version (and a Golden Star, must be Chinese?) shaker. I don’t know the quality of the Sherman though. My car s in the body work phase so I will need a hood fairly soon. Does anyone have experience with Sherman products or should I try to wait for AMD? I want the hood without hood pins also. Any AMD dealers have the scoop on when the hoods will be back in stock?

I'd ask Tommy The Chryco whose hood they recommend - I'm sure they're familiar about all of them.

If I was going to venture a guess, I'd think they are either A: ALL made in China, or B: ALL made in China & all by the same source there. I don't know for sure though.

i am a autobody tech.
i haven't see a sherman part i liked.
i work on late model cars and their parts are so bad they are NOT "CAPA" certified. very few non certified parts actually fit..
on the plus side non capa parts are usually pretty cheap.

for reference about capa certified parts

We waited for an AMD hood for about a year, tired of waiting and bought an original for $7500! I too will never buy another Sherman part, and seriously can't believe the hoods are made by more than one company... work

Don't get me started on Sherman products... down AMD wasn't around 20 years ago, so I had to put their 1/4's on my 73 Challenger. Side marker light holes had to be ground and worked to make the lenses fit.
The stamping for the gas cap hole wasn't even close, not even in the same zip code... down. Had to buy a used patch piece from an original OE 1/4 in a salvage yard. It had to be patched in from behind, as the car was already painted. I was furious! I called Sherman and what I got from them was the usual, "We've never seen this before". Yeah right!! They did refund me some money, but I'd have rather have had the parts be right in the first place.

Appreciate the opinions. I checked out the video of the guy talking about the Golden Star hood and watched him convert a flat hood. He said he has about 40 hours into the conversion, at 100/hr, that is 4k just in labor. Taking in account the cost of a hood, trim ring, support bracket, plus supplies, that is an easy 5k just in that hood! He did say the Golden Star has some issues he didn't like, but doesn't every aftermarket panel need some work? I am sure it isn't going to need 3.5k of work.

The Golden Star "store" is in Lewisville TX. I would assume one could check out the hood but would it be possible to see how good a hood is if it isn't installed on a car?

I would assume AMD uses their own supplier as it seems people always prefer their products over others?

I remember when AMD first came out with rear 1/4's for 71-2 Satellites/Road Runners. I was on another forum back then and a guy there loaned AMD mint NOS ones to make the dies from. After AMD reproduced them all the other reproduction sheet metal places had them also. One thing i find out is depending on who the name is they may use thinner sheet metal so the results of the final part will show it. How old/worn the die is another issue that will result in what the final part looks like So who owns the dies, condition and where they are is the question? I think most of the reproduction sheet metal is made in China but there has to other places who make it also.
