Would have been neat if AMC and Pontiac would have made plentiful big cube engines to compete with Mopars 440 and 426 and Chevys 427 454.
Keep old mopars alive.

I saw this picture of a 70 Charger R/T police car. I also saw this picture of a 69 Coronet two door post cop car.

Back in the day, County PD's could act with a whole lot more autonomy then they can today.
A Coronet sedan doesn't surprise me. A Charger certainly does. That must've been a higher-ranking policeman's ride.
I've also heard tales from back in the day that, if they wanted to, a patrolman could provide his own wheels for duty.

In 1969,and 1970 the Rhode Island State Police had two door Fury I coupes with 440 Super Commando engines in them. Some time in the late sixties there was a small used car dealer in Barre Vt, comes to mind Ray Tofani motors, that had several, maybe 5 or 6, 1966 coronet 2dr sedans, dark green maybe, 383 4bbl, I think automatic, that were Rhode Island cars, maybe staties, pretty good shape, but at the time there were plenty of choices, and besides I was a Plymouth guy, Belvas were much better looking ...
It takes gasoline to interest me.

Back when I used to browse eBay a lot more often, I came across a listing for a Fury III that was claimed to be a former Sheriff's car. It was definitely a Fury III, showed signs of having shields and other markings on it, and may have even been a 4-door hardtop (not a sedan!). I just did a Google search to see if there were any images and came across this on the Washington State Archives' Twitter. Only one car in the pic is fully marked and kitted out, but the ones behind it are also clearly Fury III's with spotlights mounted and black wheels--which, in 1970, still meant full wheel covers. I was able to zoom in just enough to make out a 440 badge on the hood blister. https://twitter.com/WAStateArchives/status/1230242415769837568/photo/2
