So after working on the Duster every chance I get, I come up with issues that I never had before and some of them I have.....So one of the issues we have here in the colder states is the long winter....Winter here tends to kill any un-used batteries that sit out in the garage.

Well another red top bites the dust. I even charged it periodically, but nobody seems to make a battery that can take the cold here.

My next issue, anyone near me that can help program the holley dash? I got most of it programed, just need a little help.

Stole the one out of the Cuda and put it on charge...Its a big XS3400....Probably need to buy another one of those. Spins the engine over nice, got it to idle, and before I set timing, neighbor is at the property line screaming her head off she is calling the cops on me....

No, stayed in the car...I find solar chargers work the best. Even the battery tenders kill a battery over time for some reason. I will have to mount up more solar ones.

I will say this, the new 400 stroker sounds healthy, even with the 1250 on it, she might make enough steam to use it. I typically run a 1050 on an engine of this size, but it was not in the budget this year. So I had a 1250 Thumper just sitting here, I figured it was time to try it as I have nothing else at the moment.

Make sure you are getting a real battery tender and not just a trickle charger. You want something setup for AGM batteries and something that will shut off and float charge when the battery is full. Some cheap trickle chargers just jam X amount of power in all the time regardless of state of charge.

If you are constantly having problems with Optima batteries you have to look in the mirror for the problem. I sell 1000+ of them at work a year and they are very trouble free. We get several people bringing them in that say they are bad but they just need properly charged. It is always the race car or show car guy having problems with them.

Considering you live in an area that barely gets frost in the winter let alone deep snow, that kind of comment would be expected from this stupid forum. Maybe use google and see what our winter temps drop to here....I had two frosts just two weeks ago in what most consider summer time already...Winter here is way colder than what you get...So maybe you need to look at a thermometer instead of a mirror. I have plenty of battery chargers...2 big "smart" ones, trickle chargers etc.....The solar ones, for what ever reason, seem to work best for long term storage. Our winter temps can last a long time depending on the jet stream, and is nothing to fool with.

I would like to know why batteries do not hold up to the cold some day...They only do if you use them every couple of days, but when just stored, I don't care if they are lithium, AGM, or lead acid....I lose one or two each winter.

To me it’s dumb to leave a battery outside in the winter unless it’s on a daily driver.
My boat battery and battery for my Dart sit inside during the winter, at room temp.
Hit them with my little 1.5 amp battery tender couple or 3 days before I intend to use them to top them off at 100%, then put them in the car/ boat .
Both have been in use over 5 years now, still perform like new
In fact, gonna put boat battery on tender today, getting boat in the water Saturday, we have had frost here too recently( Mi)

I had a Red Top Optima last almost 12 years. Never once took it out of the car, while it sat n the trailer... Believe me, it saw plenty of cold weather...Not saying it was the right thing to do. My last one lasted about 4-5 years. I kept it, and will use it for something else I guess.

Batteries here in the North are an issue race car or otherwise. I go thru Trailer batteries on a two year cycle no matter what brand from cheapies to expensive. I am in and out of my trailers year round so they stay in place with tenders... still they fail. Not to pile on the Red top batteries I had two last 4yrs each. I researched the proper care and charge them but yet still they failed. I have moved on to Snyder Motorsports/Dyna\Batt batteries and happy with the performance plus a cost savings and 1/2 the weight. twocents
But on to the point of the post. Thought I was set (and for the most part I am) but went out to the trailer and saw I had a soft tire (hadn't noticed it prior) down from 110 to 25 psi Took it off and looked for the leak.. none to be found (even after 3 days) Took it to a tire shop and told them to find it and fix it... they found nothing. So Im buying a new tire...that will fix it!

Rim leaks are a pain in the a s s to find. A can of fix-a-flat helps though. Be sure to drive it after putting the fix a flat in to make sure it gets spread around evenly, instead of just staying on the bottom.

July 19th should be "Drive Like Rockford Day". R.I.P. Jimmie.
