hi
I have a power steering box, but don't want to run the pump. Is it possible to run a line from inlet to outlet on the power steering box? Can I just plug the thing? Any help is appreciated!

Just put a manual box in it, it's lighter, it gives lots more room for your headers... And it's designed not to have power assist so the ratio isn't quite as quick...

I've done that because I like the power steering ratio, but don't like power steering. If it's the Mopar type box, take the fluid lines loose, then disconnect the valve plate from the top of the box. Watch out, as there are two tiny O rings under the plate you'll need to reuse. Take the big nut out of the front of the plate and slide the valve out. Also pull out the sensor rod found below the plate. Reinstall the plate and plug the hose connections with copper plugs. Works good, is not hard to turn, and you can get rid of the pump. Worked for me but do this at your own risk!!

I drove around my Dakota for a weekend when the home made bracket for the PS pump cracked, and I was lucky enough to simply bypass it with a shorter belt.

Power steering by Armstrong!

it really wasn't bad at all, except in parking lots trying to turn into a parking space! those 265/60/16s left quite a big contact patch to "scrub" in low speed turning!

I had a PS line blow out on a Challenger on the way to the Nats a few years ago.

I took the belt off and went on up, got a new hose and all was well. Sort of.

My good, tight PS box was now loose as a goose after running around without the assist.

I want my fair share

"at your own risk" is right

IMO,bad idea!

why,I did this on a truck when the pump let go,drove it for a while like that

"then one day" I stomped the brakes in a sand bed that I was going to make a left turn in..."to sink the tires some" so I could spin out turning....well lit up first, makeing the turn...banged 2nd gear, wot and closing on 5000 grand..when bam..I run over a good size rock with the front pass side tire...snatched the wheel from my hand and sprang about 4 fingers and hit a oak tree in 2nd at wot...shut it right off and totaled the truck....

armstrong does not cut it...IMO worse way to drive one,you may think you can hold it,but you cant, you dont realize just how hard the shock to the front wheels can be in a milla second, the tires can out leverage you holding the wheel

the manual gear box has a larger steering wheel and a better ratio for the leverage it takes to control the wheels

when a ps is bypased you have to move the fluild around both ways in the ps box itself, which can cause over steer and under steer real quik when "show boating"

not to mention all the stress on the colum, rag joint,ps box,tie rods, ect

that was a valuable lesson I learned doing it,I would not do it again and dont suggest it either,

4 spang fingers,busted lip,banged up knee,wrecked truck...decide for your self!

if you do...I am glad I live in FL.

good luck and be safe!
