What’s are the benefits of billet vs forged yokes

Never seen that. You would think the u joint would have broken first. You won't twist or break a billet yoke.

Never seen that before. I've seen broken yokes, u-joints and pinions (and twisted driveshafts & axles). Might better check the pinion splines for being twisted too?

I've never seen it either. It looks loke it's still square whit the other half, just offset. What does the u joint and the driveshaft look like? You'd think the driveshaft would have to match the yoke. It's odd that nothing broke.

Is it the angle of the photo or is the end of the driveshaft twisted?

850+ passes with a Dr Diff forged yoke. I've never seen a yoke bend. Where did you get it?

Billet is cheaper to make. All you need is the blank, the program, and rent CNC time until it's done. No minimum quantity, no inventory. Once you rent the program, all cost the same.
Forging requires a clever pattern maker and a foundry to make the 3-dimensional model into a set of very expensive set of dies, and someone with a huge hydraulic press (Mickey Thompson sent their blanks to ALCOA). If you're not going to makes lots of them: $$$$.

Billet has no directional grain structure, it's almost a casting.

I have had a Moser forged yoke on my 60 for about 10 years with a heavy B-body stick car with no issues. I would change that U-joint though because it more than likely has some odd wear from being cocked in the saddle

Good idea. I will have it checked. also I have a Detroit locket in it.
I am having the brackets to fit some longer shocks in so the rear end is out of it to cut and weld new brackets in place and strengthen the rear end

It only have 30-50 passes and some street miles.

DETAILS
Its a foot brake car
Launch at 2000 rpm (I have have launched of idle as well)
3850 lbs
3.54 gears
Ladder bars 1 degree down

best of 6.15 in the 1/8 at this track

Here is a video from this year. Maybe I am doing something wrong??? confused shruggy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Wx7eWLGNY

It is not a great track and I have had to get on and off the throttle at the beginning of some runs because I was spinning
See the 3 min mark (end of video)

it sounds like the throttle opening is real slow on the last couple of runs, where you doing that intentionally or is it my hearing or perception?

Kam, I see you say you are 1 degree down, but is there a chance you are going too far positive on launch and creating a bind at the yoke?

To be honest it looks pretty decent. I'm very surprised it damaged a yoke that quickly. My son has sheared the ears of a driveshaft on his. I've cracked 3 Dana pinion gears. Mine leaves mid 1.2x 60ft. Neither has ever hurt a yoke.

I am not sure I usually launched at 2000 rpm

Pac
That is a good question , I am putting in longer shocks now and that may multiply the problem,

That's odd. Maybe you got real lucky and caught it right before it broke?
My dana has a Moser 1350 yoke on it...honestly can't remember if it's forged or billet. It's been on the car since 2003 w/ no issues.

I replaced the upgraded forged with a billet one purely because I needed to fit a collar to monitor D/S speed. I used the one listed below. The caveat ? I had to get my D/S shortened 1/2" or so.

Kam Kuda are you going to do your Dana or do you have someone else in mind.

Not a big fan of Shannonville, after they sent two cars down one my buddy that just made a pass on his bike and it runs in the 7s easily and is raked and has a giant wheelie bar. The track must of forgot that once you are by the return road that this kind of bike has to foot backwards to get back to the return road. The Chevelle went by him very fast and saw him in time. I wont run against bikes with a car anyway.
