In 1968, how was the carpet color determined in a Road Runner? I have seen numbers for the interior color, but nothing on what carpet color went with what. My 1968 Road Runner was ordered as a red exterior coupe with red interior. It has red headliner, dash, doors, and seats but the carpet is black. It even still has the original long floor mats, which also are red. When I saw red was an option for the carpet, I was surprised to see it as black in this car. This is the original carpet and interior. I just wondered if there was a standard, ( in 68 there were very few consistent rules) or was this an open option left up to the customer?

4-speed RRs got black carpet, regardless of interior color, in '68 & '69 and likely '70.
All of my 4-speed '68-'69 RRs were that way - original cars - whether base or Decor Group.
My Decor Group auto '68 RR coupe had a burgundy-color carpet.
My base-interior auto '68 RR coupe - blue interior - had a blue & black speckled rubber mat.
I've also owned '68-'69 4-speed RRs with green and blue interiors, all had black carpet.
Carpet color on auto RRs is about the darkness of dash & package tray.
Never seen an option regarding carpet on those cars.
It's possible that a dealer might upgrade that at customer request, but I've never seen a documented example.

Thank-you. That is very good to know. The carpet in my car is not perfect, but it is original, and since I have the floor mats, I may not replace it, but if I do, I will go back with Black.
I do think the red carpet would look good in the car, but I am trying to keep it as original as possible.

Another note, when I look at the Red Book for documentation, it does not list the interior trim option H4R as being available for a coupe, but this one clearly has that.

Just wondering how rare a coupe red on red is?

I plan to have this car at the spring NC Mopar shows, both Rockingham and Farmington.

The H4_ interiors are part of the "decor" package that was introduced in November '67 on the coupes - before the introduction of the hardtops in January '68

If at all presentable, I'd leave the original carpet in place - it is one of those items that did not survive well 50+ years in a musclecar - and the currently available reproductions leave a lot to be desired - plus, it proves 4-speeds got BLACK carpet!

I see the reverse light on the dash (for the HURST shifter - also introduced in January '68) - so your car is built in '68 when both the HURST & red interior were available in a coupe Road Runner - more pics?

I agree on leaving the car as original as possible, for as long as possible.
I have a similar deal with my '69 RR: a little wear & tear, but a near-completely original 17,000-mile car.
As for the rarity of red/red (though I call that red/burgundy), that color interior is not common, and I've seen VERY few all-red RRs.

I didn't know (or recall) - if I'm reading that right - that Inland shifter cars did not get the Reverse warning light.

correct, the "REVERSE" light was new along with the HURST shifter - the INLAND had the "T" handle for intentional reverse action
