What is everyone using now with good results? I’ve just started using Molnar rods and they recommend the stretch method for tightening specs. Which one is best and do I need two( one for each bolt) to speed things up?

The one ARP sells is great quality and very repeatable.

From what I have seen most guys are trying to use the gauge wrong. You set the needle on the gauge to zero, then torque the nut. Slide the gauge on the bolt and see how much it stretched. If not enough tighten a little more check again until you have proper stretch. I use a dial type torque wrench, and record the torque when the first bolt is stretched correctly, then use that as the new torque spec and find it is usually really close when checking with the gauge. I see guys trying to hold the gauge and torque at the same time, just can't get good results like that.

I have the ARP gauge as well and would recommend it.

I have an ARP and I think it's the most overpriced thing I ever bought. I would recommend any other for 1/2 price.

I bought mine years ago, I think it is ProForm that has the dial indictor that reads in .0001 increments, .0050 per needle sweep up
I have an older Sunnen dial bore gauge that reads in .00050 (half a thousands) instead of .00010 one ten thousands that I don't use due to having another one that reads in one ten thousands increments also wrench

I did a quick Google search and the price on the ARP is all over the place. $160ish on Amazon to $230 on Jeg's and Summit.

Summit has their copy of it for $49. shock

I agree. Very accurate and repeatable. Spend the money and get a good one. I think the screw on locator shape is how to get good repeatability with these gauges.

THAT right there is they key, or at least that's been my experience.

This goes hand-in-hand with the style of connecting rod bolt...that dimple in the bolt (both head and 'foot') have to mate up correctly with the dial indicator tip, as well as the gauge holding tip.
