It was OK - but why can't singers pronounce "perilous" correctly ? It's not "pare-oo-luss"...

I'm old enough that I recall Hendrix' version at Woodstock, and Linda Ronstadt singing The Anthem at a Dodger game around 1977.
Can't recall anyone topping those two for effect.

To be honest, Stapleton's version is average at best. It's just that it is more traditional than most have been the last few years. Whitney Houston's, although reportedly lip synced, may be THE best Super Bowl version.

Ranting and insulting because you have a different opinion on a piece of music. Real mature.

And it's you're as in you are, not your. eyes

I didn't see any race-baiting; merely an appreciation for that rendition.
A difference of opinion is more likely to be considered if it's posed in a non-confrontational and articulate manner...

and then he cuts it down saying it was only average after he was the one who started the thread, im sorry but comparing a live version to a recorded in a studio version is not fair. only the op knows the truth about the baiting part.

I am related to Francis Scott Key who wrote the lyrics to the National Anthem using a British drinking song. My favorite rendition Superbowl wise is Whitney's! I appreciated Stapleton's version, but didn't fill me with pride as much as Whitney's lip synch or not, as she really did sing it anyway. Lets talk about Rosanne Barr's version... mad

Very unique for sure. But why the h_ll does the camera spend more time on the players then the actual singer?

eyes Jeez a loo, chill out man. A traditional rendition of the National Anthem is a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed Stapleton's rendition. But his version is average, at best. After all, they can't all be the best can they? Here is a list of all of the artists who have performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Many of which did a better job than Stapleton. Which is why I rated Stapleton's the way that I did. You have a different opinion. Good for you. Just chill out before you stroke out.

And if I wanted to 'bait' you or anyone or anything else, you most certainly wouldn't have any doubts about it.

And I wouldn't do it in the general forum.

Mods, I am sorry that this took this turn. No more responses from me on this. He can flame away all that you will allow all by himself.

I think he did a great job, his performance was better than the half time show.

I thought Stapleton mangled the song.

This is the way The National Anthem is supposed to be sung.
