Hey Mike
I had searched out a date coded small block water pump for my T/A project and had it rebuilt.
Pete's restorations did mine, not sure if he is still doing that, but even if he is not, I am sure others are.

I'm not sure how that style of date code works, hopefully someone here can chime in with the deciphering.

Hi: I think the part number you listed should start with a 2 rather than a 7. There should be at least one dot in that sun pattern surrounding the 71. There are 12 "slices" around the 71 each indicating a month. The same dating system is also on alternators. When was you car built? The date on the water pump should predate your cars SPD by a month or two, or be the same month as your SPD. Thanks for the information about Pete's Resto. I will email him and see if he is still restoring water pumps. I have a whole mess of original ones I need to get done!

It does have one dot visable after i cleaned it, But not sure if its usable due to the hose end housing having heavy and deep pitting?
