I'm running an MP .557 cam; was wondering if, from a tuning perspective, closing the lash up .010 (in steps)is too much; spec is .028 int and .032 exh, so I'd be closing up to .018 int, and .022 exh. I know there are "tight lash cams" that run closer than this, but I also know the ramp on the lobe is different also.

Just don't want to cause a cam failure.

If the engine likes tighter lash (more lift) I'll probably go shopping for another cam.

Thanks,
Jim Burch

It is our experience that lash should not exceed .004+/- than MFG spec.

Thanks, I'll remember that when I get there.

My card calls for .026 hot and I set em at .014 cold which puts me at about .020 and ran my quickest et this way. In the past I have gone tighter than recommended and never had any issues.

The decision on how far you can vary from the advertised lash specs really needs to be made by the cam grinder. Since it's an MP part and nobody knows who makes it in the first place, all I can say is I ran my old RR's .557" at .024" / .026" on the street w/o any problems. Not sure I'd want to screw it down much tigher for anything other than a quick "proof of concept" test, though.
