A friend of mine sent me these pics, he was trying to mate this 727 to his 5.2 Magnum engine. First pic is the 904 that was in the truck originally and it bolts to the 5.2 no problem. Second pic is of the 727 he wanted to swap in it. It looks like a SB bellhousing but compare the bolt hole and dowel pin location above the starter. What's up with that? He picked the 727 up as a core years ago so he doesn't know what it came out of. Has anyone else ever run into this?

If he posted the PK number on the left side pan rail, that might help us.

Maybe it was behind an AMC motor.

I thought about that too, but have no idea what an AMC bellhousing pattern looks like.

iagree bolt pattern is big block. As said above, the PK number would tell you without question...

Not AMC, starter is on the other side

Not B/RB either.

Do the old poly engines have the same bolt pattern as the LA engines?

The difference between the poly and the LA is the slight difference in the spacing of the bolt hole above the starter. It's a poly.

Chrysler made transmissions for International Harvester, TUG airport equipment , AMC, others.

Need the case number from the Chicken Tender.

I know big blocks have 4, 1/4" threaded bolt holes at the bottom for an inspection cover. This one has 3 , 1/4" holes and the two 7/16" holes for the support straps like a small block. Kunkel may be correct, I never looked at a poly engine bellhousing that I can remember.

is that the same for every poly engine or was there a build date change? Seems like this would come up more often.

I've only seen the SB bolt hole difference in the early 727 cases '62-?

Way back in 72 I swapped a 68 340 into my 64 Polara that had a Poly in it. Can't say I remember any issues but that was 50 years ago. The same trans eventually found its way into a 64 dart that ran mid to low 11's beer
