Looks like the piston to rod assembly will be straight forward. Holding the piston with the intake valve notch away from you, hang the rod on it with the chamfer side to your left. They can all be assembled this way. Is this your technique?

Intake notch on the piston toward the cam and the rod bearing tangs in the rods towards the oil pan rails up

You are correct. Back in the day the tangs were aimed to the outside because that meant the rod bearing oil squirters were then aimed toward the opposite bank and at the cam.

Not many bearings have squirters anymore. The chamfer is always supposed to be aimed at the undercut or radius fillet.

This project will not be finished for a long time. Should be in the car about 3yrs from now.
