I have a set of Hedman Hedders - full length tubes for my 74 Scamp with, soon, I hope, a 360. I'd like to get shorties so I don't have the ground clearance problems that these seem to create. Any suggestions on what kind and where to buy.

Thanks all.

Dave

Most places will tell you that shorty headers are more for hot rods with really open engine bays because of less accessories. They come away from the motor in an odd places and might interfere with where your powersteering is located.

TTI makes some full length headers for your car with less problems in the ground clearance department. But you can call up any place that makes shorties and ask if they have a set for your vehicle and motor.

I asked about this same thing a while back for my Dart but I ended up just going with full length headers at the advice of several manufacturers.

I just found that Hedman makes a set of shorties for your application. You have to use a mini starter though because of clearance issues. Check out this link

Thanks, guys. 71DartSleeper, I checked out the link, looks like what I'm looking for. I'm not sure what all the stuff is they're talking about, but it was a smog engine, but I drilled and tapped the little air holes and have them plugged. So, I'm thinking these will work.

The "TD Performance Mount Kit Part #9716" they say I have to use comes up as motor mount plates. Can this be correct? Anyone know what's going on here?

dunno, others have used them, one thing people had with them was trying to come off the collector to the exhaust, they had a tough go of it without hitting the steering.

All the familiar header companies do not make a shorty header that is a simple bolt on for the A body. The shorties you see are for everything BUT an A body- trucks maybe a B and C body. Spitfire used to make a shorty true drop in A body header. His design was later being sold by a company called Laysons. Both Spitfire and Laysons have a record that is CRIMINAL. If you want no hassle headers the pricing STARTS around $450 for Dougs and jumps to $750 for TTIs.

Keep old mopars alive.

Hmmmm. Maybe I should just stay with the full tube hedders I have, then. I had a set of Spitfires - one of the first sets Harold got sent out, but I sold them. Should have known I'd want them again some day

Thanks for all your help, folks. I really appreciate it.

I think Moparts memmber Kurt Ingram?? from Sacramento/Stockon? ran those on a 68 Barracuda and they were not drop in. IIRC, he was a little disapointed.

All I could find was for A-bodies up to 72; not for 74. I'll just stay with the full length tube hedders, I guess.
