Couldn't get my dial-ins close and chased my tail on reaction times the whole day

Ran Mod ET (1/8th) and Street ET (1/4)

Won first rounds in both... broke the first-round loss curse I seem to have had
- won Mod round chasing a guy down who had a 4-second head start in an 1/8th mile race
- won Street ET cuz it was my only really good light all day and the other guy was waayyy off his

Lost second rounds in both... to the same guy in both classes
- sucked on tree
- car slowed down more than expected, especially running Street ET back-to-back w/ Mod ET

Would like to have gone more rounds, but...

Long day, but a fun one, regardless. Met some new folks, caught up w/ some I haven't seen in a long time beer

Yeah, the F.A.S.T. guys were hauling a$$! So were the KOS guys, but since they don't show the times now, I can only guess...

No obvious PBs for my 1320, but maybe some data worthy of work I'll have to dig up the slips and see what catches my attention.

One thing I can say for sure is this car heat-soaks really badly, even on cool days like yesterday. I've started putting ice bags on the intake between rounds and sitting in staging, but the IAT climbs incredibly fast as soon as I have to start it up while waiting to make a pass. And the heat kills the car by about a tenth and 1 MPH from what I can tell.

Sounds like it’s time to get the other car on the road smoke

Things aren't always as clear as I'd like them to be, but here's what I found reviewing all my 1320 data...

Based only on time slips with complete results for 1/8th & 1/4 ET & MPH (I do have some better results that come from runs where certain data points are missing due to timing system issues), yesterday, the car ran its best 1/8th mile pass:
1.682 60, 7.527 at 92.47

For comparison, the best 60 to date had a complete 1/4 mile run of:
1.680 60, 7.560 at 90.90 (1/8), 11.894 at 113.75 (1/4)

And another 11.89x full 1/4 pass with a slower 60-ft, but better MPH:
1.746 60, 7.594 at 91.94 (1/8), 11.893 at 114.38 (1/4)

The best 1/4 mile pass to date doesn't have 1/8th mile data, unfortunately:
1.714 60, ——— at ——— (1/8), 11.833 at 115.80 (1/4)

I suppose it's possible that a full 1/4 run on that particular 1/8th mile pass would have been a new PB for 1/4 ET, even if not 1/4 MPH. "Maybe next time..."

Oh, re being time to get the other car running... that's what Mike Hynes are going to be focusing on this week. luck

Brad ,
you sound like a mate of mine here . He runs a Holden ute , 6.2LS / 6 speed auto 4000lbs range . Car runs 11.90/12.20s . Same issues runs good then has a erratic big drop off or poor sixty . my opinion is its simply the wrong type of car . His has a tune small cam and a bit more gear . Look to Stock type cars . They will run tune in open (?) loop so it will not adjust when running kind of makes it follow weather like a carb car . Fly by wire is not great for best throttle control and hates whacking throttle in top end .Computer controlled trans may well be the same . Then add a"slow" car which is way more sensitive to DA wind and track and you have an awkward car to race .
He is on to his 3rd set of different radials but I dont reckon he has a tyre issue whistling . From Hoosier to MT ETSS to MT PBR now . In 17's or 18's .
Just my twocents
Oh and heat soak dont even go there grin . Yes IAT is killer as it pulls timing

Tex

I had an 04 GTO. It had the IAT sensor right by the radiator. It would slow the car down a ton. I moved the sensor when I put a cold air intake on and it helped s bunch.

I raced my lifted jeep Cherokee with a stroked 4.0 in a few years ago when my car was broke. I ran a pass, helped tow a broken racer back to his pit, and then ran another pass without shutting it off. The engine temp gauge never moved but with the hot intake air it dropped over a second of ET. I am assuming the hot IAT pulled timing and added fuel. Horrible vehicle to try and bracket race, rollout from a 35" tire isn't easy and it was wildly inconsistent.

Never thought I’d say it but I got tired of watching the new cars, maybe because no exhaust noise?!

Although I do like your new car, I'm sure you'll get more fun out of the old one when it's done and that gets my vote!..get'r done!

So all those times were from sat and your personal best was from a prior day? Sat was pretty damp in the morning, but dried out as it went on. I ran a couple of 117 mph’s around 3:10 pm on sat, so the air was pretty good then.

Only the 1/8th mile pass I mentioned was from Saturday. All the other 1/4 mile passes I referenced were from other days & tracks.
