I picked up a new toy/project today.
I know it's not a Mopar, but I think that it'll be a fun fair weather toy.
I've kinda always wanted a dune buggy like one of these and I worked out a deal with a buddy on it so he delivered it today.
It's powered by a Corvair 6 cylinder engine with a powerglide trans. I'd have preferred a stick, but this way the wife can drive it if she want to.
It's been sitting for a while so it needs some work to get it road ready.
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

Like the manual trans Cub Cadet tractor Dad taught me to the mow the grass of our steeply hilled yard with at age 7 and the six wheeled Amphi-Cat ATV at age 9 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphicat... there is no roll bar or cage which is a good idea for a person of any age to add.

Nice score! Those little buggys are fun to play around in! Weight to power ratio makes them go a lot of place a regular two wheel drive won't.

That's one of the first questions the wife ask when I showed it to her "Are you going to put one of those top bars (roll bar) on it?" I've thought about it.

Very cool; I've wanted a Meyers Manx for decades, though I've never had an actual need for one. When my younger brother got my '64 Corvair - my 1st car at 17 - he did an exhaust similar to that and it sounded great. It was a leaker until the pushrod tubes & other seals/gaskets were re-done but was clean afterward. Ohh it wasn't something I needed. I've just always liked them and thought it would be a fun toy. I'd love to have another motorcycle, but I'm not young anymore and there are too many inattentive clueless idiots driving on the road these days. I love the open air feeling and this will get me that feeling and at least be a little safer then a motorcycle. At least I hope so.

If you actually get into off-roading it you will be blown away by the places a buggy can go and how well they jump. With all the weight in the rear they tend to land perfectly and softly. I had a set of serious directional mud tires for the back and skinny front runners for off roading - it would go just about anywhere it would fit. At one point there were 4 buggies in my immediate family and two close friends also had buggies. What a blast!

If you buy one it helps on the insurance if it is still titled as a VW and has the factory chassis VIN, I have seen some with "homebuilt" titles and state VINs, and while insurance can be complicated it is possible. Surprisingly this one is titled as a 1962 Chevy. Title says Year 1962 Make Chev Body style Dune I was told it was because it used the Corvair transaxle even though the front pan from the axle forward is a VW Beetle. The last two owners are guys that are in our local Mopar Club. Ken, the guy I got it from (Mopar guy) got it a couple years ago from Bob (another Mopar guy) and Bob titled it in 1980, it's still on the 1980 Missouri Title in Bob's name. Bob was out at our house last week (I mounted and balanced some tires for his wife's car) and he told me the history on it. Bob spends time here and in Mexico, he commented about blasting around in Mexico in the Buggy. He said his son told him it would pop a wheelie.

Yes, I can verify that it gets complicated on insurance with a homebuilt title (I've been an insurance agent for over a decade now). I've insured a few of these, but I've not seen one with a Corvair six and powerglide! That's awesome and has to be pretty unique (most are VW powered). JS
