I installed this damper on my 400 last night and with the hub bottomed out to the crank surface it is about 5/8” from flush (sticking out) past the crank end.

I did not get a bolt with it so I don’t know what the one that fits this set up looks like. Summit’s call in tech was closed by the time I discovered this.

It doesn’t look right to me but what do I know.

what’s up with this ?
Thanks !

"5/8” from flush (sticking out) past the crank end"

This about right. If you were able to press it on any further it would be hitting the timing cover.

So I was able to talk to someone at summit and apparently I ordered the kit that fits Donovan, Keith Black, or Indy timing covers. But that doesn’t explain the difference in the crank and hub end unless it’s for 426 hemi in which case the crank dimension is different. I really don’t know.
But they way it is now the bolt won’t capture the hub. It’s just not fitting right and my pulleys aren’t found to line up either.

That sounds right, the version for the aluminum cover has a slightly longer snout to position it out to clear the cover. I never measured it but it does exactly what you describe.

It’s ATI-917127E.
I’m wondering if I could just get a different hub or do I have to buy a whole other kit ? Do you know if the damper itself would be the same application in my case ?

You can buy just the center hub.
Part No __ Pulley Face
916663 __ 2.190" comes with Damper #917127E for gear drive, Indy Al timing cover, Jesel belt drive
916661 __ 1.630" comes with Damper #917470E for stock pulley alignment

The only thing I am not sure, is that since 917127E has 3 elastomer rings and 917470E only has 2; will it work with the shorter hub distance?

This is what I was trying to ask the rep at Summit. When I asked if I could just get the proper hub all he said was the right kit for my application is ATI917122E so I am thinking the difference in the dampers’ construction may affect pulley alignment.

Also, I am doing this in preparation to install my BDS 871 blower set up so the stock alignment is critical so that my belt alignment is true.

I just bought a short hub "663" new from ATI. I don't need it now because we changed to the INDY cover. If you want to trade PM me. Sean

That ATI BB balancer hub is like all the other stock hubs on BB Mopars, your good. up
The bolt you need is a .750(3/4 inch x 16 thread x 1.5 inches long works well, make sure and buy a good quality thick washer to use between the bolt and the dampener hub up You want the bolt threads to be engaged in the cranksahft threads at least the diameter of the bolt scope wrench
Is your motor still externally balanced? If so you need the external balancer, I have had one on order since May of this year, no luck so far whiney

I took it off today and it was double h. E. L. L.
The OE balancer hub is like 1.75” thick and the ati one is 2.5” and the distance from the seating surface to the face of the hub is different so it definitely will NOT work for what I need it for

Damper 917122E is a 3-ring damper and ATI says, "Note (12) Not an OEM replacement for stock pulley location."
The pulley face dimension is (2.130-0.190) = 1.940" (compared to the damper for stock pulley location 1.630")

I made this comparison from a stock Chrysler damper (440) that I measured.

Aside from the fitment, it wasn't right and I didn't even think about it being for an internally balanced engine when mine is external. I found what I need with Mancini Racing

Exactly! It took me going the long way and taking the hard road, but i realized this yesterday!

Thank you

Jim love to know whee you got that drawing from. I have been on the phone with them just nor for over an hour trying to find an answer for me on a balancer. Much like everything with my new engine build we had a foul up we didn't catch til it was assembled. Long story short Bryant made me a crank with two blower keyways 90 degrees either side of the stock position and are trying to find a balancer.

Back when I was buying parts for my B1 engine, I got lucky with a representative at ATI, and he emailed me a few dwgs.
Here is the one with the Chevy pulley front.

I need to find that same guy, otherwise due to the issue with the crank Ill be checking timing at 6 o clock....Just another issue with this deal.

We have not had any luck finding someone to machine dual keyways in the balancer hub yet. Or anyone at ATI who can answer the question about one of their hubs. Will fix it when I freshen the engine as fixing it now will just be another set back in time and we can work around it for now..Have to send cam back as well to get its locating pin moved to...ugh

These diagrams are great Jim and thanks!!! Although there is no way I'd consider the compromise to my orientation (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that) , I'm glad you persevered for the team to score this informantion! laugh
