from the early '70s:

BOB CALLAHAN DODGE INC
128-134 BLOUNTVILLE HWY
BRISTOL TN 37620
dlr # 57403

the dealership is NOT listed in the '88 Dodge or Jeep dealer directory
Blountville Hwy appears to be Highway 126 & the location would be near the current intersection with Highway 11W (there is a hospital at 350 Blountville Hwy)
freeway interchange construction in the area may have changed the surroundings significantly since the '70s

I've been shooting a lot of these the last few years, because dealers basically don't use them anymore thanks to laws in many states requiring the customer's permission to put a plaque on the car (the last three cars I bought from a dealer had license-plate frames instead, because they're easily removable by the customer).

Trying to find out information about the dealer is kinda hit-or-miss. If they're still in business, even if it's under a new name, it's pretty easy to track down. In other cases, the best I can find out is that they're no longer around. It's especially difficult if it's a discontinued marque like Studebaker or Packard.

I searched this one earlier today, and the best info I could find came from the owner's obituary, which said he started a real-estate business about 1975. That would suggest he got out of the car biz about that time.

Call me "Cranky Old Guy" . . . but I have told any of the dealers I have got new cars from (leased cars for work, a couple personal cars), that if the dealership wanted to ADVERTISE on back of MY car, the fee was $100/mth and if they had something on back of my car when I picked it up, that they had verbally agreed to that contract . . . sure keeps them from messing up the back of my car ! . . . lol . . . sorry to hijack . . .

Cheers,

Mark

My M Code 69 GTS car is from Northland Dodge, I understand they had front license plates with their name and would love to see a picture of one.

Not Northland, but here is an example of a metal dealer plate. Our GTS was sold new at Northwestern Dodge in Ferndale (Detroit). Would still love to find plate frames from them or from Van Ness Dodge (San Francisco) where it was sold used in 1970. I bought this plate last summer.

I lived in Bristol, VA from 1969-1972 and remember that dealer as my dad would always take the family wagon to dealerships and drive whatever new cars were out he was interested in. We went to the AMC dealership and they had a SC/Rambler on the showroom floor, of course dad ended up buying an Ambassador SST wagon, tried to tell him he should buy the red, white, and blue Rambler! I also remember the Chrysler Plymouth dealer, Richard Petty brought his road show there before the Valleydale 500 in 1970 at the Winston track, I got an autograph standing next to his Superbird, wish I knew what happened to it... frown

I've got a pair of plate frames from West Valley Dodge in Los Gatos Ca. But it's not likely to find someone whose car was sold there. It was a smaller dealership right on the edge of San Jose. They likely didn't move too many performance cars as there were much bigger dealers in SMOG JOSE with a lot more inventory on the lot. beer
