I had an issue of Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle (or something that went out of business for all I can recall) that detailed a sweet little valve body mod for the 727/904 transmissions.

Does anyone recall this article? The mag had a purple 440+6 Challenger on the cover. Had to be back in the 86-89 timeframe.

The mods which were basiclly drilling out (enlarged) a few spots on the seperator plate, bumping the line pressure a turn or two and tossing away one check ball worked great! I did several valve bodies back in the day and now can't locate the issue =(

You'll find those mods and a few more in this TCI kit instruction sheet:

Thanks for taking the time- I spent 3 hours yesterday looking for the old Mopar article and came up dry. I was sure I saved that issue!

I remember a magazine with a 71 Purple Challenger 6-pack 4spd. I don't remember if it was on the cover or just an article. I think it was MoPerformance.

But there might be a Mopar Action/HP Mopar with a purple 6 pack 71 Challenger on the cover I remember too.

Looking now....

Can't find it. My guess is that it's a MoPerformance/Chysler Car Enthusiest or Chrysler Power issue.

It was High Performance MoPar, it had a purple 71 challenger in it and I think the trans article was by Billy Bellofatto.

You're the man

I don't have a lot of pre 1989 HP Mopar issues.

those mods sound a lot like the transgo tf-2 shift kit upgrades. It works very well, my 4dr newport would bark the tires into 2nd at 55 mph with astock 400 2bbl after that kit was installed

I think I have that article somewhere too. It sounds familiar anyway. I have a 727 that came from a friend of mine who did some of that stuff to it.

Nice article. Help me be clear about a few things. In picture 5 the accumulator spring is discarded. Nothing replaces it? In picture 10 I can't see exactly what ball is discarded? Is he talking about where the cup and spring are shown? Finally in picture 11 I assume the gauge is made because you want the spring to end up at exactly 1-9/32"? Has anyone actually done these specific mods? Thanks!

the accumulator spring is removed and the accumulator is block with a 3 inch rod about 1/2 inch in diameter...
