Why, that's an AMC V8! Chrome valve covers like that typically would mean it's a 390, but they could have been swapped on from a 390.

Most of the early made Jet Boats had either 460 Fords or BB Chevy to power them. That is not a BB Chevy Living in SO CA and working on cars and boats since the mid 1960 I've never heard of any AMC motors used in any inboard/outboard or jet boats boat I've been wrong more than twice
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Is it really an AMC? I was thinking it was BOP motor Buick is the only other engine I recall with the distributor angled to the left. It looks like a breather cap to the left of the distributor so I think it's an AMC?

Anyway, 368's and 425's as well. Still think this one's an AMC and AMC guy called it first.

There was a yellow one in a town I use to live in, man it was beautiful and sounded killer. Those are the 71 hemi cuda of boats

It had a 455 Olds motor and I was pretty fast from what I remember. Boat races in the local creeks were pretty popular back then.
