My rant for today.. WHY did the engineers make ALL Chrysler products have the positive battery post on the left?! I go down to the junk yard to get some wrecked car batteries and there’s 50 on the pallet and none are left positive. Every other car made in the world are right positive but Dodge. Another bright idea!

You're complaining about late model mopars? I've no idea why they use the Ford terminal arrangement. I know my late 300's and Durango all use the "F" terminal arrangement.

Facing the battery with the posts opposite of you if the positive is on the right that is the majority these days. GM trucks and SUVs, Ford F150, Charger/300/Challenger, Ram truck, Caravan, and almost anything European all use that arrangement. I think the latest stragler was the avenger/Journey platform that kept the group 86 battery.

The batteries on 2 of my 3 vehicles have the batteries in a remote place on the vehicle. Where those batteries are located really makes no difference how the posts are oriented. Both also have jumper posts under the hood, I can position those posts on the panel any direction I choose.

Spend a few bucks and buy 6" longer battery cables. The position of the posts on the batteries have only ever been an issue with one or two vehicles I've had in my life as a car owner (about 50 years).

I don't think so, battery positive always goes closest to the starter. If you put it in backwards is would be on the left.

Sounds obvious to me if there are no batteries that you want at a junkyard because everyone needs what you do! work

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

The battery is on the left of all my vehicles with the positive post on the left closes to the starter. I really had to do some moving and stretching to get the cables crossed on the 06 Dodge truck this morning. Thought of making a rig for both posts that extends around to other side of bat to attach cables too. Cables and ends are huge with multiple wires on each one. The guy at the yard said those bats are scoffed up real quick.

If you use a hydrometer to check the specific gravity of each of the cells at the junkyard
and then load test it too
it might be worth paying half new price.

If you pay attention to cost per year
I would guess new versus junkyard batteries
could be very close.

Its mostly because that post arrangement he wants is much much less common after 2010 or so. The DIN style batteries like come in the newer chryslers as well as many other cars are much better. The post being recessed below the top of the battery really seems to help with corrosion and the remote mount usually extends the battery life as well. Even the Japanese auto makers are trending towards that style of battery.

Junk yard batteries are $26 they last on average 5-6 years, store batteries are $125 and up and they last on average 6-7 years, I have the voltage-load tester also.
