Are you sure it's your wife's cousin? We got a call from someone claiming to be a shirttail cousin who claimed he was in jail in Florida and needed bail. When I asked for the number of his lawyer.....click. Not saying this is the case here but there are scammers out there.

Why not just PayPal or Venmo the cash via friends and family ? Because he uses Cash App. There is no friend/family/gift option on Cash App, so I printed the receipts and kept notes just in case we have to pay taxes or he does. At least he can fight that part if he wants. The one prepaid card I tried didn't work. Was hoping it would. Posted this before I had a chance to research it more.

Can't speak to the apps BUT ... To me this sounds like a typical scam. Ask your wife to ask her cousin some questions that a stranger might not have answers to. My sister-in-law came this friggin' close to handing over $8000 cash a month or so when she got a call from (supposedly) her son who was supposedly in an accident (which accounted for heis different voice). The only thing that saved her butt was that same son happened to call her on her cell while she was on the landline with the scammer !! Yes, I know many cases of fraud. This case is similar to them. People are actually easy to deceive; you need to trust only proven money transfer applications (this is the first thing). I just recently read about a mobile banking app, I found an article https://dashdevs.com/blog/how-to-create-a-mobile-banking-app/ about it. In fact, now people under 30 are able to understand where they are being fooled. But if you look at people aged 30 and above, most do not catch the banal tricks. They're probably not used to this. Yes, I know many cases of fraud. This case is similar to them.
