Howdy,
To those in the know; will a HEMI 99 fit in between the stock frame rails of a 66-70 b body?

Yes, with custom mounts or a front and mid plates mounting. I almost went Hemi 99 but got a good deal on some 2nd Gen Hemi stuff so I built my 528 Hemi from there.

Thank you for the affirmation. It looks good to go from what I can see but you never know until the <insert expensive part> hits the <insert immovable or structural object>.

Thank you Al! Your car is my inspiration. This will be a 10.5 tire/stock frame rail deal with a Liberty 5-speed.
Man that car is clean!

That engine went to a buddy of mine and he put it in a 66 Coronet with a liberty..Now it is in a Stratus tube chassis.

This one is going into a 66 Charger. If he has any B body specific parts left over I'm all ears. Why did your friend yank the '99 out of the Coronet?

I believe our chassis is up to the task. I don't plan on gettong too crazy, just some grudge/no prep/5.0 index heads up stuff. Prostock Hemis are cool and I don't mind the hard work. Hopefully the stars align and I can get the deal done!

He pulled it out of the Coronet because he traded the Coronet and some parts for a PS style Stratus. The coronet has been sold a few times since then as well. One of the well known Mopar racecar traders was involved with the Stratus trade and subsequent movement of the Coronet. I don't think he or his family who also race are members here. But occasionally lurk around. Here is a photo of it in the Coronet And the Coronet The Stratus he currently has.

Sounds like a good driveline you have access to! There are a few here that might give you some insights to help you along. Good luck to you and keep us up to date with your program. Absolutely will do. Thank you for the encouragement and tech info along the way.

I like RPM and honestly that is part of the allure when considering this package. Being a hobbyist that likes to tinker with fast cars this will just be another fun adventure of discovery. I don't take this stuff too serious because that tends to beat the fun right out of the whole deal.

Man I love those boxy cars! Thank you for sharing the back story and pictures. I'm stoked now!

Happy to offer any insight i can. They are not necessarily "high" rpm deals. Although to most Mopar guys I am sure the RPM is scary My old combo was shifted at 8800in the red car and he went 8.30's at 3600lbs with a liberty. I went 8.19 at almost 3400 in Vegas with it and a TH210 but it saw 10,000 rpm with me.

My current race engine project is an Indy -13 headed 451-470ish cube deal with a t-ram and custom LS firing order solid roller that spec'd about 85-8700ish RPM for that combo.
With the Hemi 99 I was hoping to stay around 9k to extend valvetrain life. My understanding is that I need to run the valves after each pass which is fine. I like to check things of that nature often for my own sanity. That said my labor is free and springs are $5-600 a set and going up every quarter.
Al, do you have any insight with respect to power output at 8800 vs. 10,000 RPM? My Charger weighs around 3k lbs with an Indy headed iron B block w/ t-ram, Lenco 4-speed and ladder bar/Dana 60 combo. I think it will be a wash weight-wise. I read somewhere that the Hemi 99 weighs about 500lbs? I assumed that was s/out the dry sump tank and other peripherals.
I'd love to see a dyno sheet. Hopefully all of that paperwork will be headed my way shortly.

I can tell you from the dyno sheet it as about 270hp...But also bear in mind it was in a big tire 4 link car with a 5 speed when in the coronet. This allowed it to leave more aggressively and also kept the engine in a smaller rpm band to help with acceleration. My car was a small tire minitubbed, ladder bar, 68 Barracuda with a TH210..So it was a compromise to get it moving. I can tell you it was a much happier valvetrain at 8800 than 10200. The Barracuda was never really built for the amount of power it made. It was pretty much a glorified bracket/small tire Super stock car. When it had a 1040HP in the framerails it was awesome. With the 99/06 it was less happy for sure. It did run quicker that way ultimately but I would be willing to bet if we took the average ET's from the two combos the ole B1 probably had a better average ET overall. Why because it ALWAYS went from A to B. I managed to win a couple races with the Hemi combo and also managed a runner up in the class for the year. Actually won more rounds than the winner but he always out qualified me, head to head I was a tad better at 3-2 for the year. Not exactly the right tool for that engine...
