hey guys looking to put a skid plate on my 66 Coronet. I ve smashed to 7 quart oil pans thanks to the roads in Hellinios. I see you can buy a stock 1 inch one. But ive read that i guess they had one for hemis with 8 quart pans that were 2 1/2 inches . i cant seem to find one so i figured i would just make one. Anyone have one that hangs down this low or where i can find one?

How low is the car ? Are you referring to factory oil pans ?
Factory Hemi pan was called a 6-quart, 1 qt more than the Wedges.
I've run Milodon 8-quart pans on 4 cars on the street so far, never a scrape. The cars all at stock height or a bit lower.
One was a Hemi RR, and I don't recall its skid plate being anywhere near 2.5"; not that it would matter with its 8-quart pan anyway.
All those cars have been driven on roads in Calif or northern Idaho; neither place does enough road maintenance.
Hell, we have potholes up here routinely 3" deep if not worse, and the diameter of a large drain pan. Gotta steer around or straddle them.

The car is stock height. Ive had 2 different 7 quart oil pans on the car and both of the got smashed. The last one was really bad. I live in Hellinios and if you have never been here you have no idea how friging horrible EVERY road is here! In my town alone there are litterally no roads you can do the speed limit on! For real! The last one that got smashed they were doing road construction and there were no signs. i came across a side road and there was a huge drop off and BAM! there is no dodging terrible roads here in Hellinios! We have the worst roads in the entire country!

Only 3" deep? Amateurs! In IL, that would be a small bump. We don't call them pot holes until then get 8" to 10" deep and at least 2' in diameter. If the car's tire & wheel can't fit into the hole, its not a pothole here.

As for the OP, exactly how far below the K member does the bottom of the pan sit? What torsion bars does the car have? I had a buddy that smashed (3) 7 qt oil pans before we realized he still had slant 6 torsion bars under the RB. Installed a set of RB torsion bars and the problem went away.

So where do you live? I've probably been there.
On my buddy's car, in addition to installing RB torsion bars, I welded 3 pieces of 1 1/2" square tubing to the bottom of the K member, so they fit in front and around both sides of the oil pan sump. As far as I know, I installed the last oil pan on that car before the tubing was added. The guy worked with me, and changed jobs about a year later, haven't seen him since.

I've seen reproductions of the Hemi skid plate for sale before. Maybe Yearone, Classic or AMD would have something. twocents

You ought to make one. You would be welding it on anyway. Could probably make it better
