Has anyone used the new Hurst competition plus shifter for their 71 bbody? I noticed on the brewers performance website it says will not work for 71-74 bbody but not sure why.

The 71-74 B bodies have a lot of similarities with E bodies. Shifter may be one. The levers on the bottom of the E body shifter body are offset differently than other shifters. That said, I have a Gm style Hurst Super Shifter2 in my E body and even though the levers are not offset the same as a stock shifter it fits and works as it should without any modifications using the original E body shifter mount instead of the corvette mount that came with it. Obviously your experience may differ when mixing up parts.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

The difference would be that if it's a bucket seat 71 B-Body it would use the same shifter as an E-Body.
If it's a a bench seat 71 B-Body it takes a special shifter.

The link you posted looks like it's intended for 70 and prior B-Bodies.

This pics shows the different shifter mounting locations.
[Linked Image]

The top one is A-Body.

The lower one shows the two different mounting locations used by B&E Bodies.
70 and prior B-Bodies use the front one, closest to the main body of the trans.
71 bench seat B-Bodies use that location also with a special shifter mounting bracket and shifter.

E-Bodies and bucket seat 71 up B-Bodies use the location at the rear of the tail housing.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I thought the brewer site meant with original rods. I think you have to use inserts with Mopar rods because lever holes are larger.

There’s one more tail shaft used on the 66 b-bodies, trans mount is different

The levers are what make them specific to certain makes/models. The new 4076 Hurst has levers comparable to the 68-9 B, and the 68-74 A with 6353 rev lever.
