Anyone know of a GOOD Chrysler service department & heavy tech (engine/trans/rear end) in the metro Detroit or Flint area? I think my Challenger Scat Pack needs a new rear diff, & my 300 may have trans & possibly rocker issues. I just do not know a good dealer to go to for service like this. Thanks.

Rear differentials: Warren Gear

Transmission: Greely Garage in Utica, Van Dyke south of 23 MILE.. Bob has a retired engineer doing all his tranny rebuilds.

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

I agree, Warren Gear is the place to go for rear end work.

Thanks, but let me be more precise: I need a good Chrysler or Dodge dealer to go to. I think I need a rear end in my Challenger, & another transmission n my 300, plus my 300 may have a rocker arm issue going on with the 3.6 motor. The vehicles are both still under warranty.

Good luck at the dealership...

Try Serra in Grand Blanc for the engine. My son just had his 3.6 taken care of there. Quick and no foolin around.

Used to be a good tech at Palace a few years back doing transmissions. Not sure if he is still there.

Not strange at all if you've been what I have been through 2x now, plus a few other guys I know & what they have been through.

Thanks - I will probably try Serra.

Unless things have changed in the last 5 years since I left Chrysler - 8 speeds get replaced if something is wrong inside, unless it needs just a mechatronic.

I think you are right - I had talked with the service manager near me last fall & he said the same thing - they won't go in & try any surgery - they just put a new one in. He is a good service manager, it's just that I don't trust their mechanics there requiring any "involved" repair issue. I dropped the car off at Serra early this afternoon. It'll be interesting to see what they determine. They're looking at the rocker tick & trans issues. I'm nervous - I love this car & plan to keep it for a while!

I worked as a GM dealer tech for 26 years. Worked with more than a few that couldn't tie their shoes. Compile that with the fact that the factory expects diagnosis for little if any time paid to the tech. When we did a trans. GM would only pay to replace the faulty part. And only pay to go as deep as that part. So if you gutted the entire trans to clean it up, that was a free be. One of the last jobs I did was a spun bearing in a front drive Cobalt 4 cylinder. It spun a rod. Dropped everything out the bottom. Then pulled the engine out of the lowered cradle. Pulled the head, timing chain, balance chain to pull one piston. Pressed the rod off and new rod on. the original piston. Swapped the crank. Put it all back together. Recharged the AC. Aligned the front suspension. It paid 9.2 hrs.

UPDATE: Got a call finally today from Serra (I was waiting for them) & the service writer said their mechanic took the car for a test drive & listened to the 3.6L - he thought the motor is fine. (I hear rocker noise for at least 10 minutes when it is cold - sounds like a BOSS 302 valvetrain!). Then he said the tech checked out the trans, the fluid, & pressures - he felt all was fine with that too. BUT, he said the tech found the driveshaft "coupler" was almost total failure & it was covered under the drivetrain warranty, so they are going to fix that. I asked the service guy if it was a U-joint, or if the driveshaft was a 2-piece - he really didn't know anything about it. Anyway, I'll pick the car up on Sat. - heading out-of-town for business tomorrow-Fri. Now I gotta check into this driveshaft assembly & see what failed & why, & keep an eye out for this in the future.

Picked the car up today. They replaced the driveshaft assembly - the center section is not serviceable. From the research I did on this, this is about a $2,000 repair, and looking at a few videos, I would say this is a known defective design & that ALL Chargers & 300's will need the driveshaft replaced, so BE AWARE & LOOK FOR THIS! My car has 70,000 miles & I would estimate I have been noticing the shimmy & something strange feeling & sounding from this for 5-to-7,000 miles. There is NO WAY one of these driveshafts could go much longer than this without a major issue!

Glad to hear it worked out. Times are hard some dealers suck and thet know it and do not care.
So I totally understand that you wanted to go to the right one for your problems

Do you have Max Care by chance? I think it would be covered under that.

GOOD GRIEF! I wonder if the max care warranty covers it?

CPO warranty which is still valid for another year, and I learned that the "Drive Shaft" is not included in the "Drive Train" warranty... Go figure...

Excellent video BTW, thanks for that.

I bought this 300 (it's a 2016) 3 years ago later this month with 20,000 miles on it - it was a certified vehicle, so 7 years / 100k drivetrain warranty. This driveshaft replacement was covered - cost me $100.00. This IS a very faulty driveshaft design & part & Chrysler knows it. There's no 2-ways about it. Next time you get your oil changed, check it out.

PLUS, I'll bet there is a TSB out on this.
