I have a friend that runs a Dart with a 440 in it runs 10.70, His motor has 750 runs on it and the guy that sold him the car had 300 runs on this motor . So I asked him who built the motor. He said the guy died , I said yea he starved to death waiting for you to have the motor freshened

So how many runs you got on your motor and who built it

If I get 250 runs on a motor I think I did good

I know some guys that go 350 and replace lifters and valve springs, high lift stuff, then replace pistons and rods at 750. If its 500hp you can go 1000 runs but dont complain if it breaks. New stuff should be on order.

A couple of things would come into play... how many
revs does he turn it to and has it lost power or
smoking. I have about 250 passes on my W-9 now and
its still running the same ET as it did new. I take
a leak down reading when its new for a reference then
a couple times a year take another reading... if its
not dropping its still doing good.
I would say he's doing REAL GOOD with that number of
passes but I would at least check the spring pressures

Yes it has slowed about 2 tenths over the years, but no smoke. he don't turn it real a hard maybe 6400, but I still think it is a good build with over 1000 runs. I told him I wan't to be there when he tares it down . It's just a 446 with a set of 906s a 590 MP cam and a m1 with a dominator.

If it has a factory 440 crank and main caps with bolts, he better take it apart for inspection now. Magnaflux the crank and caps.

I have between 140-150 runs and a few thousand street miles on my 470 and the eagle rods and cap screws are over 8 years old. I run an off-set ground 413 crank w/stock caps and studs and have been 7500 rpm`s and am now changing my generic valve springs out for some spintron tool room iskys to see if it runs better since my springs measured pretty low.

Mine will get freshened at 100+- runs. Rods will be replaced probably pistons and rings and bearing, a bit more compression and cam as I still have some left on the table there. New springs at 50 runs.

I had a 440 with a stock steel crank Eddy heads and a tunnel ram style 6pac in my 69 roadrunner running 10:40's and i got about 250 out of it before a 4 barrel rod let go. replaced 1 piston and the connecting rods with eagle rods and put about another 250 and still looks good.

Ran almost identical 446 in a Demon back in the 90's running 10.80's/5600 shift, 6200 trap RPM. Ran it for several hundred passes over a couple of years with no power loss or breakage. We were using a heavy 12:5 TRW slug with stock crank and rods. Finally the small end of one of the rods gave up...go figure!

I freshen rod bearings and rings at around 80. Valve springs are junk at around 40 or so.

RB based 493 stroker.
With the same short block, same bearings/rings, but ran with several different head, and intake combos. Lets see. About 75-100 runs in the Coronet with hard 5-6K street miles. Then over in the Dakota for 3 seasons, probably a easy 200+ runs. Now sits between the frame rails of a Mud racer, with two seasons, with the original bearings etc.
The guy who has it now picked it off a good friend, he came to me and I pulled the pan and looked it over, we put the pan right back on it. No bearing changes.
Eagle Crank, and Off shore H-beam rods, and Probe pistons. Stock oiling system, stock main caps, and arp bolts through out.
I built the engine in "04".

Well Bob that looks like the kind of motor I would want for a bracket car. Just bring lots of shoe polish and cold drink.

Because it gives me piece of mind. I am going to error on the side of caution with the rods. Pistons will get swapped for more compression, otherwise it would be a simple freshen up. Probably more cam on the next one as well as some was left on the table. I spin it to 8400rpm so not worth the risk IMO. I would rather spend a few $$ to make sure all is well than take the chance of loosing a motor in the traps at 170

Ted the springs are not a huge issue for me. Helps when your brother in law is a higher up at PAC racing.
