I want to buy a engine test run stand. Normally I would use a DC distributor/chrome box in a street car and a MSD pro-billet/7AL-2 in a race car. But this test stand won't have a box to drive the ignition. What would be a good self contained distributor for this application? That would make things easier. And I would like to buy a stand alone AFR gauge for the mixture but I don't know if any are better than the rest. Thanks.

I used a stock distributor that had a Pertronix electronic module in it on the last 440 I had on my test stand. Nice and clean setup.
I normally use an MSD setup though.

I have a old MSD 6 box on mine. I made an adapter wire that goes between the MSD distributor/crank trigger to the Mopar electronic distributor. That way I don’t need a different self contained distributor for tall, low, small blocks, or the Chevy motors my buddies bring over. If you only plan on running one particular engine, then carry on. I agree on points. I'd use a dual point, nothing starts faster than a dual point, and it is so simple and foolproof.

When I first switch from the old Mopar race chrome with the blue heat sink ECU to an early MSD 4040B ECU with the matching coil my 426 street Hemi stocker started way easier and quicker, a BUNCH quicker
