Will never have that ICE V8 sound obviously. Maybe this just makes me old or old fashioned or whatever, but I'll always crave the feel, and the sound of a rwd V8 engine. And no not piped in sound.

All I see is buckets of money pissed away when the tiniest thing on that complex mess of an engine decides to fail.

Yup. As far as I understand this thing was supposed to come out years ago to replace the 5.7 in the trucks and suv's but FCA wanting to lessen their debt to attract a merge partner held off. Since then they came out with an all new Ram, wrangler, gladiator, grand cherokee , wagoneer, grand wagoneer etc etc. Every new major component you change requires brand new crash testing, so they get to also spend millions re-crashing all of those, and they have already said they are dropping 35 billion or something on going EV, so this really makes no sense.

I'm looking at the location of the idler and other pulleys and wondering if those simple (usually anyway) replacement items are going to be a real hassle to get to. Just these not to mention plugs, alternator and other maintenance items.

After watching the guys on Engine Masters try to get a / 6 to match or exceed a Road Runner 383 V8's HP of 335 and could only get to 328 HP turbo and all I'll take an inline 6 with 400 HP in the lowly base model and 500 HP in "HP" version. Plus meets current and future emissions standards that are trying to kill the ICE, hooray and good job Mopar! And don't think for a minute there isn't a V8 concept somewhere on a drawing board if this is a success and accepted engine. If it's hated and poo pooed well then I guess EV are the way to go down down down Modern day / 6 ICE engine in my eyes, long live the ICE. up

I would bet if you made a "box" that this IL6 engine fit into you could probably fit nearly ever type of future powerplant into the same box. That has been the design concepts for the last several decades for building vehicles around a (smaller) "box" powerplant.

Yep, looks like it will be fun to work on . . . . . . .

This I6 wants to IDENTIFY as a V8!

I am not rich...but I get off my ass everyday to make sure I am not broke!

Can we get the Mexican cartels to help us with our supply chain issues? They don't seem to have any trouble getting stuff from one place to another.

Mike I understand the reasoning or necessity. I don't hate it, and I'll wait to see on reliability. As I wrote I am however concerned over maintenance costs but hard to say from a picture of course. The old fashioned in me will always want for a V8 but manufacturers can't build engines and cars on that.

Get it down to its purest form and drop it in a 4dr A-body.......could be a fun driver/sleeper.

Ferd has been doing it for years, ask any Ferd mechanic how much fun they are to work on, ever hear of Ecoboost? panic

Willing to bet it'll live beyond 1000hp, possibly even 1500, being built for boost it'll be all forged everything and the block will be equally stout. Its a Mopar 2JZ

Good luck trying to figure out when something goes out on it and not what I call swap friendly by the look of it either.

Those days are long gone. Shoot they diagnose everything on race cars and bikes from the pit walls now. The dealership/manufacture's diagnostic equipment is so far advanced now they might as well put tamper resistant fasteners on vehicles and this or decals like it on every part under the hoods. Won't be surprised when you'll need a code or password to open the hood laugh2

to tell the truth, I'm surprised they used an inline 6 instead of a V6. I would think the V6 would have been a smaller overall package.

Not that it would matter much to me, I'm not going to buy a new vehicle with one in it, and I don't foresee me hanging around long enough to have one in my hot rod.
