Real handy and kind of a piece of mind to either leave in the vehicle or grab it when you are using something that's been sitting for a while..........like one of my motorcycles or when I go to get the riding mower out (JD322) for the first spring mow. My wife bought a Halo brand for my son, me and one for her and they work great. They will give you at least a half dozen jumps no problem without needing to be recharged. I also took mine on our boat (5.7L MerCruiser) just in case and that is another kind of piece of mind too. It will recharge your cell phone with or without a cord, just lay your cell phone on it if it has wireless charging capability. The Halo will even in a pinch provide a small amount of AC power for what I don't know ![wink wink](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/wink.gif) I'm guessing a small laptop? You can also power small DC devices like a portable air pump and they have bright LED lights for a flashlight and some even blink S.O.S. I'm misplaced my Halo for a couple of month, (I think it was last October) and just found it last Saturday under the seat of my diesel van and it is still fully charged! I bought a Battery Tender brand 1000 amp jump starter a few weeks ago when I couldn't locate the Halo for I think $105 and a small portable air compressor, a tire plug kit and a tire patch kit and they are all going into my adventure bike panniers or my backpack for rides down in Amish country Ohio. Might seem odd that I got these items for Amish country but on a ride last fall down there I found out what one of the biggest hazards is there HORSESHOE NAILS. Yep my friend got a flat rear tire on his adventure bike from one, pulled it out, plugged it and pumped it up with a small, very small portable 12v air pump. Back on the trail/dirt road in a very short time. Oh and if you think your going to get a jump start from an Amish horse and buggy not going to happen, get your own portable jump starter WELL WORTH THE MONEY ![grin grin](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/grin.gif) Don't know how this one works yet or how reliable but it does have a lot of juice and I'm betting that it's down to just a few companies that make them for everyone and the tech has been around for a while now so they are pretty much all the same. If the Halo was more readily available I would have jumped on another one as it works great. The Battery Tender one is available lots of places and off course online, got this one at Lowe's with a Christmas gift card so I'm good to go. And look ![scope scope](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/scope.gif) it reads it will start a V8 not just one of those Eco 4 cylinder baby motors ![grin grin](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/grin.gif) Mike

We have used the mini jump boxes for years, have jumped hundreds of cars with them and have had several different ones. Here are my experiences: Brand seems to have little to do with quality. We now have a Gooloo box. It is over 4 years old, cost $45 on sale on Amazon, and is the best one we have ever had. 600amps will work for most gasoline engines. It may start some high loads, but won't live long doing it. Although I prefer ones that have a dialog screen as well as the reset buttons on the box itself, most of the less expensive ones have the box at the plug which would not necessarily be a deal breaker. We can jump several cars on one charge. When jumping, the one thing NOT to do is to crank too long at a time. Short cranks, then give it plenty of time to cool. Cranking too long at one time is the only way we have killed ours in the past. I know nothing about any of these, but are ones I would consider if buying today. www.amazon.com/SUHU-Battery-Portable-12000mAh-Flashlightwww.amazon.com/Starter-12800mAh-Waterproof-Battery-Boosterwww.amazon.com/MEGAWISE-16800mAh-Starter-Portable-Batterywww.amazon.com/GOOLOO-GT3000-Charging-SuperSafe-Portable ![twocents twocents](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/twocents.gif)

I wouldn't plan on it cranking for very long as the wimpy wires aren't going to carry 150+ Amps very long No better or worse than the wimpy wire jumper cables most people carry (if you're lucky someone has any) in the trunk or bed of their vehicles. I'll take one of any of these rather than having to find someone with jumper cables or calling AAA or paying a tow truck if you don't have AAA or insurance coverage. Well worth the $70 - $110 for the convenience of self help. Besides if you have to crank to the point of any wires getting hot then you most likely have more issues than a low or dead battery......just saying I'll politely disagree, From another post further down When jumping, the one thing NOT to do is to crank too long at a time. Short cranks, then give it plenty of time to cool. Cranking too long at one time is the only way we have killed ours in the past. And I agree the 6 ga jumpers aren't the best but IMO better than the above. I'll also partly agree that "if you have to crank to the point of any wires getting hot then you most likely have more issues than a low or dead battery". I say partly because as stated the wimpy wires aren't going to carry 150+ Amps very long A possible solution in some situations but not all, especially so if one's charging system is the cause of the low battery. I was also thinking more along the lines of a V8 not a honda etc. ![twocents twocents](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/custom/twocents.gif)

Most of the 'jumper cables' that I see anymore are actually more like charging cables. They will charge given enough time, but won't carry enough current to jump a low or dead battery. We have several sets of 'jumper cables' that we have accumulated over the years, but only one set with heavy cables will actually jump start a vehicle. The rest will only charge a low/dead battery, eventually.
But we rarely use any of them since we have the mini jump boxes.

And the reason not to crank too long with the mini boxes is not because of the cables. It's because the batteries won't take it. They get hot and swell up and/or let the magic smoke out. I have had a couple different ones do that. One I had just put in my jacket pocket. Smelled something hot and, OH CRAP! Never had any problems with the cables, though. I guess being so short helps.

Most of the 'jumper cables' that I see anymore are actually more like charging cables. A few years ago I bought a set of 25' 2.0 cables from Oreilly's, had to order them. At the time ~ $125.00 The counter guy was really impressed, he didn't know they carried them, all he'd ever seen was the too small cheap crap they keep on the shelf. In 1996 I bought a set of "wrecker" cables for my then new '96 dually from Wrangler Power Products. They're out there, just not on the shelf at Wally World.

Well, I can't get the links to work either now. Take the links to the Amazon site and insert them in the search bar. They come up that way. The boxes range from $41 to $150.
What was the price on that puppy? Asking for a friend.
