Switching my 1970 Challenger from column to floor shift, and looking for advice regarding purchasing a new steering column (e.g. from Ididit) or a used steering column? I know I'd have to get the used steering column rebuilt, but that's another problem because I don't know where to go for that, or if anyone in my area (metro Detroit) does that. The new steering column is attractive because of the tilt option...price is high at $1200, but thinking it would be worth it if it really would easily bolt in perfectly right out of the box. Lead-time is not an issue. My car does have power steering, which I know makes a difference with the columns...other than that, I know 1970 columns are unique with the lock out and flasher button, but from my understanding the 71-74 columns can be used on a 1970. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, want to make sure I order the correct parts up front. Thank you in advance.

Rebuilding a column is easy, I do my own.

I would rather have a column shift car than one with a console that rattles myself.

That said, you can buy a replacement collar for your existing column to do away with the stalk.

(if you do rebuild your column, leave the staple in the rubber bearing isolator, it provides a ground for your horn)
