Looks like a tamper proof screw. If you must tamper with it, you will need to get a set like this.

Security torx I think they call them. They are used on restroom stall partitions and stuff in public places as a theft deterrent.

NAPA sells the sockets individually as I had to buy one a few years ago and didn't need a whole set.

safety torx. and depending on how much force you need, you can wedge a flat head in to one side and get it to turn.
or if it is really small use a flat head to break the center pin out and use a regular torx or allen wrench.

I never got the use on restroom doors after most places did away with "pay toilets". What are they afraid of that someone is going to steal the toilet stall doors??? shruggy laugh2 They use those as "non-tamper" screws on a lot of motorcycle carburetors still.

I have some success using a pin punch
to first knock the center pin left, then right, then down, then up.
Rinse/repeat/etc
and it will snap off

Or just buy the socket set. They're cheap enough.

as an aside, not so sure how secure that bolt really is. Like any bolt, if you don't have the tool to remove it, you won't be removing it. Get the tool and out it comes. Not like you can't get the tool.

Not steal. Probably just disassemble them as a prank.

Try to recall the kind of stuff you used to think was funny back when you were a high school boy, and the reason will start to become clear.

It won't stop them, of course. But they WILL have to plan ahead (to have the right tools on hand). And of course, this is the teenage boy's Achille's Heel...

I bought my set at Home Depot. I needed it to replace the stripped plastic gear in a meat slicer. What lame brain thought it was a good idea to put tamper resistant screws on a machine that would almost certainly need repaired? Oh wait,.they want you to throw it away and buy a new one. Nope, not happening. I'll keep my eyes open for a used commercial slicer that is built to last for decades of constant use.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

i use T-30 torx a LOT working on VW cars.
Menards near me only has this style bit for sale. they don't sell regular T-30 torx sockets.

Get the security bit sets that are longer.

Another “security step” that manufacturers are doing more of
is to have one security type fastener down in a deep recess hole.

Corporate Liability Insurance companies
are probably driving this manufacturer behavior.
