Well after all these years motor went bad, had to push start button and rotate drum by hand. So I bought a retro fit ‘direct replacement’ motor. Yea right, wrong. First had to scour the internet for wiring hookup, got that covered. Next the two new belt pully’s were to short so went to my lathe turned the belt end on the longer one down so the short one fit on it, worked fine. Got it all back together then big scraping noise inside found out the motor had slipped out of the front holder-bushing and fan was scraping, turns out the new motor is 1\2 shorter so off comes the back bracket that bolts to bottom of dryer box and holds the belt tensioner. Back down to shop to weld 3/4” piece on and drill the 2 holes to space it over. Works like a top now, maybe get another 50 years out of it. BTW we bought the washer-dryer when we got married in 71. Gaskets went out on washer 20 years ago so we bought a Maytag. 7 hours on this thing, had to let off some steam.

It is always fun trying to get the old updated to new. Luckily we have a washer/dryer scrapper in town and has a lot of older parts on his self's.

Now for your labor.....$35 a hr X 7 hrs = $245.....cheaper than a new dryer and will probably out last the new one as well. up

Motor and belt was $160. Plus the dryer will burn you touching the clothes, not with the new dryers

1971! Congrats on keeping it going that long.
I'm only at 30 years on our Maytag combo.
So far I've only had to replace the drum rollers. luck

Yep and like you said better. Very simple machine not an electronic part in it, all mechanical switches.
