Has anyone had a crankshaft made from a raw forging? I acquired a Callies Small Block raw forging in a bulk buy of some other parts. I will try contacting Callies this week, but was curious if anyone had some other experience based suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Mancini had some unfinished small block forgings a while back and i looked into having one finished.
It was less than 400.00 for the forging , but the finish machining was closer to 1000.00.
That , and the fact that forgings would not accommodate enough stroke for what I wanted to do made up my mind.
To have a competent shop true them up , finish size , index and equalize and do the thrust surfaces should not be cheap , and if it were , I'd be suspicious.
Those were not a high end steel either , and that should be a factor.
When I could get a decent crankshaft from Molnar for less , the die was cast.

I think that a lot of the current and past American crank company buy raw forging from oversea foundries and finish machining them here so they can say "made in America" work shruggy
i think Ohio Crankshaft company is the only company that I know of that buy their forging from an American foundry up scope
if you want to spend a lot of money for a really good crank buy a custom billet one made here in America scope up
