I have 73 Dart Disc brakes on the front of my 68 GTS, the calipers used to rattle so i replaced the hold down plates about 300 miles ago and that took care of it now they are rattling again. Any ideas what i can do to stop this? very annoying when you hit bumps....Thanks.

bend the tabs on the one pad so you have to tap it in place into the caliper & the other pad fits in loosely(file it on each end if it doesn't) & use some disc brake quiet on the backs where they contact the caliper

I did that before i replaced the hold downs and it helped but didn't solve the problem. After i replaced the hold downs they were quiet but now they are just as bad as they used to be. The right one is the worst, i can grab the caliper and move it up and down by hand and the bolt's are tight. Are the new hold downs junk already? can they be shimmed or bent where they meet the caliper? Thanks.

you mean grab the pad? and which pad? I've bent the holddowns a bit but even a factory one w 100K should not be getting loose, something else going on.

The pad's are'nt rattling in the caliper it's the whole caliper rattling in it's cradle. Here's a pic of what i have.

Oh Ok. With the caliper making contact in the grooves that let it slide each way what about taking the caliper out & greasing the grooves w some grey antisieze paste? Wire brushing them clean for a few seconds 1st.

It moves fine in and out, it's loose up and down like the hold downs are'nt tight enough, i'll pull it apart tomorrow and get a better look.

bend the holddowns as they should be bending a little as you snug them down onto the caliper & be under tension. EDIT I have gotten(myself) off track here yes just bend them a good amt so that they bend & are under a fair amount of tension by the time the bolt is all the way in.

Get a new hardware kit with the rubber bands which will stop the rattle.

They go just under the flat area on top of the caliper adapter. Below the hold down clips. Takes up the slop between the adapter and the caliper.
