Project is my 1971 Challenger back glass trim. It is missing some of the welded on studs that the trim clips attach to. I know 70s E-Bodys used screwed down trim clips, I am NOT asking about those. I am looking for screw in or rivet studs that will work with the 71 clips, similar to the ones in this picture and link. I see them listed for specific models of Ford and GM, but are they all the same? Or does anyone know what size, vehicle interchange, etc will work with the 71-74 E-body clips? And yes I would prefer weld on, but I can't justify the cost of a stud welder at the moment. Thanks for the assist, I know someone here will come through with a fix for me.

I have used small screws from the hardware store, and they worked fine. you just have to find one that the shank fits in the hook of the clip.

Thanks. After looking around, including TJPs link above showing them for Ford,Chevy,Chrysler, and Eastwood only selling on type of weld on stud, I'm going to assume these are pretty universal. I order a small pack of them (10 screws) from AMD and will test fit them on the original and reproduction trim clips I have. I'll try to remember to update this post for the future people with this question.

I probably have the product name & brand written down somewhere, but when I needed to install (NEW) the trim retaining clips on the back window in my Diplomat coupe I used the following setup: special rivet which is installed using a depth pre-set rivet gun head. This positions the rivet with enough installed height to allow the clips to be mounted.

I used washers on the back end of the rivet (so the rivet head that holds the setup in place) to toughen it up a bit and give it a solid mount that wouldn't move. Not that otherwise it would, but I just didn't want to see these clips come undone.

1) that's the setup

2) this is the purpose rivet gun head

3) and this is how the rivet mounted in that head looks like

Worked out very well. No problems with the installation, very solid:

4) here is a side channel with a few of these installed

5) and here is a close-up on how the retaining clip attaches to it, pretty much an OEM like install

Make sure to use a good sealant on all the screws, especially on the bottom beer

I have the tool to weld the correct studs in but the screws work just as good. Here is a link to what you need.
