Wix oil filter # 51515 are design to remove down to 20 microns, their race filter R51515 filters down to 40 microns Both have built in internal bypasses to insure the oil flows into the motor with cold oil, no matter what weight your using. I use the bigger NASCAR race type oil filter Wix #51222R on a remote mount on the front motor plate. I'm not sure what size it filters down to I'll find out now though since you made me think of that the wix 51515R is 61 micons https://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/PartDetails.aspx?PartNum=51515RJoe

That is interesting, I was told by a Wix race tech that it was 40 microns on that race filter number,51515R which made me not use them. I went to Wix web site before posting on this to see what they show the size micron on the bigger 5122R that I use now, nothing posted about the media filtering sizes I'll call them on Monday to see why that other sites shows different micron size than they told me on the 51515R filters

dirt track SB, oil/filter changed after each race. Just my opinion, when changing the oil & filter after each race; the filter doesn't matter as much. I would run a filter with a fine micron rating (21) for break-in to trap as much fine material as possible during that "wear-in". My thinking about when racing, is to run the coarser filter (61) so it is less likely to go into bypass if your engine gets a sudden dose of dirt during the race. If it happened, the dirt would circulate if bypassed, causing more wear. I cut and pasted this comparison from the WIX site, I do like their filters.

I have been using the Mopar M090 filter from Mopar, I buy them at walmart and I believe they are made my Purolator. I use them because they are easy to get, priced fair, and they fit my Jeep and my Barracuda that doesn't have an oil filter angle adapter on it.
My 418 had two drag weeks on it and had eaten some needle bearings due to a rocker arm and lifter failure in two separate events. I knew about the rocker arm failure in 2017 and replaced the rocker system entirely, the lifter was a surprise on a teardown in 2019.
The attached pics show why I am a believer in these filters which in reality aren't anything special. The oil pump was very torn up inside, the rod bearings were perfect and got re used. That tells me that the filter was doing an amazing job haha. Those rod bearings had two drag weeks on them and probably 4000-5000ish miles?

For a dedicated race engine I like to go on the high side for micron rating. I have used the Wix at 61 micron. Any higher mileage street driving needs to be smaller. The Moroso filter is good to but pricey. I think it is 27 micron. If you are using old school syrup oil stay with the higher micron too.
You will see a difference in oil pressure just by changing filters with different micron rating also I have found. That tells you something about the flow rates.

I have some 20-50 oil that I can use for breakin or I can go thinner on this if you think it is too thick. & any recommended brand of filter? thank you for your time. Spend on some time on the K&P Engineering website and you'll learn some interesting stuff about filter ratings. Basically you can't always believe what is written on the box. https://kandpengineering.com/technical-information/
