Just curious if anyone has ever build a 440 Six Pack with factory Max Wedge heads? I've often wondered what could have been if Chrysler would have continued those heads for production use on the 440's later on.

The Edelbrock sixpack intake will require welding and porting to work with max wedge heads. Indy sells their Modman intake with max wedge ports.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I am using a factory 1969 Six Pack/Barrel intake, so I really don't want to hack it up. Looks like I will just try to find a nice set of used ported 906 heads that I can go through to match with the cam. Thanks again!

ChrgrCuda- There is a company in Kansas (KC Engines?) that does CNC porting of iron heads with pretty good flow numbers at a very reasonable price. Get a good set of cores and let 'er rip. The 440 Source Heads look like factory castings if you want to go that route. That's awesome! I will look them up! Thank you!!

After reading that cool sounding title and now reading the decision to just run cast iron heads turned out pretty anti-climactic. I was hoping to see you get into the weeds with a full rework an aluminum six pack manifold, so it would bolt up to some Max Wedge port heads and make some serious horsepower. Good luck either way.

Looking back and thinking "What if." What if Mopar would have continued the max wedge heads on a 440. Another option - lower in cost to the top option Hemi but more powerful than the 906 headed 440 magnum. So from the factory an optional 440 Max wedge with big cam and increased power above the 440 magnum- a direct lower cost option (Compared to th Hemi) competitor to the LS-6 Chevy offering.
Keep old mopars alive.

Impressive work they do. They show a pic of an iron LA and RB head in their slideshow.

As has been mentioned, the easiest(best?) way to run a 6bbl on MW heads is to use the appropriate ModMan intake from Indy.
Even after welding up the port flanges on a std 6bbl manifold, the runners themselves are way smaller than the MW heads, so the intake would be holding back the heads from making all the power they could.
Having the MW sized heads is only 1/2 of the combination......... you need the true MW sized intake to go with them.

If you are going with iron go with a set of 915's. as Mentioned 440 source heads are "factory" cast so they will work to, plus they are aluminum.

Thanks Dwayne. That was why I asked the question. You pretty much pointed out the reason I guess why nobody does this combination. My point in using factory stuff was just that...what could be accomplished. Not what or how much better aftermarket Indy or any other aluminum heads and intake would be. Just factory stuff.
