Heard that they have alot of problems. (Can't find head gaskets that fit, need to shim rocker shafts, and poor casting. Made in china.) Sounds like buy cheap get cheap? Which is better open chamber or closed? Which cast iron head is better to over? Should I forget cast and go to Aluminum? 67 383 with 484/284 and 10.5 trw pistons. I'm new to this.
Thanks for any help.

What exact piston do you have as there is no such thing as a 10.5 trw piston for a 383 .

also you want closed chamber heads .

all the negatives about the stealths are just unfounded internet rumors .

Stock one's don't fit but daskets that do fit are readily available

Mill any head or deck the block and you're likely to have to shim the shafts for proper geometry

poor casting

The first batch had some issues but those were supposedly resolved and the customers taken care of

Yeah, so ?!?!?!?

. They are a good buy & you'd take them to your machinist to be checked over just like every(mass produced) part should be checked before you use it.

My Stealth heads are awesome, needed no more work than a set of Eddy's would. Solid lifter Comp Cam and despite what you read I was able to use the 440 Source springs, just had an inner damper added for 50 bucks .

Had them ported by Modern Cylinder and they now outflow many race heads, and they look stock something no other aluminum head can claim.

Do some homework they are great heads.

WRONG , machining the decks of either the head OR the block ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT EFFECT ROCKER GEOMETRY .

Using rocker shaft shims to make up for aggressive head/block machining will SCREW UP your rocker to valve tip geometry. The PROPER fix is SHORTER push rods ....

this is assuming the rocker to valve tip geometry was correct to begin with

I was very happy with the stealth heads i bought they fit perfect, better the the stock iron heads i was running. I do want to upgrade the springs and do some porting next time i have them off. I painted them right along with the block and they look like stockers. I bought them only becouse my machinist was taking to long on my iron heads.

Still ??? do you have the number of the exact piston ? I think we have been thru this , if not it's VERY HARD to get 10.0 compression with a FLAT TOP PISTON in a stock stroke 383.

Is your piston a flat top or a DOME ??? What head are you currently using ?

The chamber on the stealth is 84 cc , you are going to have to cut the heads below 80 cc to even think about getting 10.0 in a 383 if you have flat top pistons .

correct I was running a 383 that if I remember right was .010 or .020 in the hole and with a 79.5cc chamber (NHRA stocker spec) it was a little over 10.1 with stock pistons/rods. Head gasket was .035 or .030 compressed.

Was that a TYPO , to get close to 10.0 the piston needs to be NHRA spec .021 (.020???) ABOVE THE DECK .

I didn't build the engine. The person I bought it from told me it was a 10-1 engine. I'm just trying to wake it up a little. I believe it is at least 10-1 because of the sound of it. Another friend told me ( he helped with the carb.) that he thought it was higher also. I won't know till I take it apart. I have messed with mopars along time ago (1960's) so I have some basic knowledge. Been away a long time.

If it's running now I'd do a compression check that'd give you something for a baseline, if not measure your deck height when you open it up so with the new heads you can plug it all into http://kb-silvolite.com/calc.php? to get your actual CR

not a typo it was a true 10-1 down in the hole .010,.020 with 79.5cc chambers NOT ABOVE THE DECK.From the factory chambers were 88cc, closer to 8.2-1 even though advertised at 10.5-1. This was a 70 date coded HP 383 Motor.

Something does not add up , to get 10.0 with 79.5 cc chamber the piston HAS to be poking above the deck .020ish, below the deck that much the chamber needs to be near 73cc .

Do a search here and you will find more info on the heads. I posted some pictures of mine and they are nice castings. The standard Fel-Pro head gaskets that are in the engine gasket "kit" work fine, but are thicker than the fel=pro race head gasket which also has a slightly smaller bore diameter. The springs / locks / retainers that came on mine seem decent for most hydraulic cams with aroud 0.500" lift or less.
The Engine for these are not built yet, but I have two friends running the stealth heads with no problems.
