My Series 24 yellow cap battery just got measured at 100 cranking amps so it's toast. Sad that there's no value to this except the yellow caps. Who has the best pricing on new ones? Thanks

Probably from someone who includes free K-Y or Vaseline laugh2

I have a dead resto battery as well, and pretty much decided to gut the case & hide another battery inside for half the money.
I just need to sack up to deal with the mess & the acid.

This is the link over to Abodies Only showing exactly how to do that. It is also suggested which battery to use. I'm in the same boat about tackling this acid issue. Apparently, this guy just washes multiple time with water.

Yeah, it's what to do with the guts, acid, and flush-water.
Plates & guts not a big deal - trash, I guess - but the liquid part of the job seems serious to me.

Baking soda neutralizes battery acid. You can google it.

Seriously? How have you made it this far. I just gutted one last year, it’s no big deal.

I kinda like the dress up kit to make a cheap battery look like vintage OEM up

I used a topper on one of my cars and it looks decent. Good for most situations short of concours or OEM judging.
Rather than make restoration batteries, someone should make restoration cases already set up to install a compact racing battery inside. When the battery goes bad, all you’d have to do is replace the racing battery, not the whole expensive repro battery. Basically what many are doing now by hollowing out batteries that have gone bad, just sell the case so we’d be doing that from the get go.

I also think there is a good market for these. Lots of people would pay $100-$150 for an empty case pre-configured for modern small batteries. Whoever makes the cases now should market these, it wouldn’t be that much of an investment over their current operation.

Some of the repro batteries are simply a large case with a small modern battery on the inside. No acid worries.

I now have two dead yellow cap resto batteries that I could do that to but I don't have the time to try it now. Maybe in the winter.
