Hi all Im new here and impressed with the wealth of knowledge ive seen what im wondering has anyone swapped out k member from a 64 b body and replaced with a newer style i think this might simplify oil pan, headers and mounts that seem to be very specific for this vintage Thank you

Yes, it's been done quite a bit.

Gives better weight distribution along with, like you said, later header use, better engine mounts etc.

It does put the motor really close to the firewall, though.

Just moves the mounts back. Yea it is bolt in. I did it on my '64 Fury that BobK has now. You can run the late headers and the oil pans fit as they would on a later car. A cross ram will not fit without "massaging" the firewall.

Also, you will have to modify the trans mount. Kevin did a great job on my (his) 64 Fury.

Just some info for you in case you dont change the K-member. I still have the original K-member in my 63 and everything fits fine. I use Hedman headers and a Moroso 8 qt oil pan that fit with no mods. And I have plenty of room at the firewall. Weight distribution seems to be fine on my car. Ron

Here is the mount we modified when using the late K-Member. Basically moved the box back and down using 2x3 tubing. Was able to use a later A/B body trans mount from Rock Auto for $7 vs. the $79 one from Imperial Services.

We did it because I had two sets of headers that fit later B-bodies and no early B-Body mounts, so it was cheaper to just put in a $60 K-Frame that I got off ebag.

Engine sits pretty tight against the passenger side firewall. Modifying the kickdown linkage for an auto trans was a test in patience
