Can anyone tell me if a ramcharger (1990) that has power door locks....does the hatch also lock/unlock . Or is the hatch manual lock/un lock only
Pulled the lock cyl out of the hatch today to get keys made for it and never seen anything that looks like it would make the lock with power

not sure i understand your question for sure. there is a rod that goes from the key cyl to the latch. there is another rod that goes from lower side of latch towards bottom of door to pdl solenoid. the key will over ride the solenoid. hope that is what you want to know.

It's key only right through 1993.

I did not see anything except the two rods that go out to the sides of the hatch

I had a 93 RC with power locks but there was no rear hatch solenoid provision, only the doors.

Rockauto doesn't show one either so I'd so no.

The 87 or 88 Ramcharger (the model with the tall side windows and without the removable top) my son has does not have any rods that attach to the hatch lock/push button. The inner part of the push button simply pushes against two levers inside the hatch that release the side latches. When it is locked, you can't push the button in. Gene

are those lock solenoids the same [or similar] to earlier lock solenoids from the late 60's, 70's ? [not counting the wire plugs]

No lock solenoids on the lift gate on the back of my son's Ramcharger, just the lock cylinder/push button assembly. The whole lock/push button assembly is probably only 1.5" long, and it pushes back in directly against the levers that rotate the side latch assemblies. I doubt any solenoid would fit into the area, you would have to redesign the entire latch system. Gene

sorry for the confusion gene.
i wasn't inferring that the gate had a lock solenoid, just wondering if the door solenoids were similar.
now with that said, if one was inclined to pursue an electric gate unlock feature, look at a [96 up] minivan gate latch motor.
those are very tiny as well as powerful, and easily adaptable to most any trunk lid or gate. i hooked one up to my buddy's 64 ford galaxy trunk latch, and he then wired it to work with a key fob he was using for the locks on his doors.
i'll look to see if i have a pic of one of those. if not, i'll take a couple. they are pretty neat little gizmos.
