Considering the documented variations in the quality of factory machine work/stamping, I'd say ?????????? A dull end mill will leave a different finish on the pad than a sharp one and the guy doing the stamping could be half-drunk or on his best game.

The 8 looks faint, but the 7 looks really deep of an indent. Strange for two numbers side-by-side on a stamp

The font doesn't look bad but you really need to remove the paint on that stamp pad to see what the pad surface looks like, there are tell tale machine patterns to verify. I agree. And I wanna see that and the top transition lip/ledge from the raised casting portion to the pad. And what’s with the M6254 stamp? Is that a thing?

Its all moot point at this point. the gentleman who was interested bought another car. and the 2nd guy I thought might be interested in it,,,,is not.
I'm not so sure. This is one of those occasions where the journey is actually more important than the destination.
