For those of you that have a reproduction battery from Jim's Battery (formerly Antique Auto Battery), what 10 or 12- amp brand charger are you using?

I use an Odyssey 12 amp charger, recommended by the battery manufacturer.

I use the PulseTech Xtreme. Theirs does more that charge. It works as a desulfator too. I looked into these when my yellow cap had trouble cranking and they stopped making the repro batteries at that point. It was a hail mary purchase, but that said the battery I was ready to throw out has been running strong for the last 5 years.

Works well.

how does the shumacher charger compare to the pulsetechXtreme ?
has anyone done any "shootouts" on this ?
i recently bought a pulsetechXtreme charger, and it seems to work ok, compared to my ancient [1972] model shumacher.
it was $60.00 on the bag.

It would be quite challenging to design a comparison test between two desulphating lead acid battery chargers.

Perhaps you could collect a large number of
used 7 amp hour sealed lead acid batteries,
randomly divide them in two,
then compare how the two chargers do “on average” on their half of the batteries.

You would have to decide how long to charge each battery

You would have to find a characteristic to test:
amp hours of capacity at some chosen value like a quarter amp
or
peak discharge voltage down to 10 volts (like starter batteries)

Seems real challenging to me

Volunteering to charge up old golf cart batteries, again randomly, then see how far a golf cart can go, is an alternative,
but here the “weakest link” comes into play as there are so many batteries in series.

Relatively cheap digital devices that record multi values like volts/amp hrs/watts
exist in the Radio Controlled vehicle hobby.

i never thought this question through, thinking it would be possibly easy [?] to do if one had the two different chargers side by side.
thanks for giving me more thorough insight on this matter ! bow
as it seems both chargers work as they are designed, and both seem to have reasonable reviews, it looks like the comparisons come down to price and longevity.
as the desulfate chargers are somewhat of a new process [?] available to the general public, i'm guessing it will be a "time will tell" process to see which will last/work for the longest time.
i will bet they don't last as long as my old style charger, which still works great. biggrin

You may be right, and the new ones may not last as long, but keep in mind in my case it revived my battery that I was getting ready to toss. Guess what charger I'd been using? Yep, it was a Shumacher. There is also another desulfating charger worth looking at. It's the one I believe is shipped with Vettes. I believe the ones GM uses are made by CTEK and the Xtreme is used by the military.
