A bunch of us were bench racing recently and talking about build spec when someone mentioned carbon fiber body parts. We seen them for GM and Ford cars, but nothing for the late 1960' to early 1970's A-B-E-body cars. I figure in most cases that these parts would be stronger and lighter in come cases in comparison to fiberglass parts, but the down side is cost. Mopar guys have been known to be a little cheap (I know I am) and prices would be up there is the costs. Is it worth it? Does anybody make a race/street parts in CF for our cars? Would like to hear what you guys think.

Glasstek will make just about anything they make in fiberglass,in carbon fiber. I had a Hemidart hood and scoop made in carbon fiber. As was said in the OP the cost is substantially more.

Does Glasstek do wet or dry carbon? Did they give you any comparison weights to fiberglass?

Lol, no kidding! Would probably get pretty boring around here if instead of discussing this stuff everyone just called the manufacturer.

I agree INTMD8!! This is a forum. A place to discuss. If every question is met with...'call the manufacturer' ...that kind of kills why we are here. Yes I do agree we could all just call the manufacturer. The forum let's us ask the question as if people have contacted the manufacturer and now have some knowledge to share.

Cab I truly do not mean any offense. You sir are a reason I always come back to this board. up

I built my hood out of carbon fiber.. I started out by making a fiberglass hood but I didnt like
how much it moved in the heat(sunny days) so I started saving stuff from work to built a carbon
fiber one.. if you have to buy all the stuff it is very pricey.. no idea what the resin price is now days
but I would guess very pricey.. I laided mine up using vacuum... I didnt weight it but as a guess
carbon is just less than 1/2 the weight and mine is 1 layer thicker than it needed to be.. could have
got the weight down about 1/3.. its stronger than I guessed

FWIW Unlimited products can also do carbon parts. But don't be surprised if they are as heavy or heavier than the fiberglass pieces. But they can go it. Ultracarbon may be able to do some for you as well. Glasstek would be my choice as for pricing its simple supply an demand. Heck seems like every other mustang and camaro these days has carbon here and there. Even Hondas are covered with it. Just not much demand in the Mopar world.

When I worked at the race shop we got all our cf from Joe Van O. Expensive, but very nice stuff and very light.

I just looked again. It seems the only thing he does now is '69 Camaro bodies.

I got my hood through Cynergy Composites out of Canada. They do a lot of the AH stuff and all the carbon for the Copo’s.

I seem to recall Ben Holt saying years ago the front of Pancakes Dart was like #6 lighter in CF than glass.
