I bought a 440Source six quart “Hemi” pan for my 440. Which Melling pickup tube do I use, the 63S3 or 63S4? I’ve read through several posts and I’m seeing conflicting answers. I believe the S4 is for 402 style pans, and the S3 is for the 73+ B-body pans. My block appears to still be tapped for a 3/8 tube. Thanks

Anybody? I’d like to order one before COB. Thanks

[EDIT] 440Source was no help, they only wanted to sell me their pickup tube (which several posters have complained about). I guess the purchase of the pan, a crank pulley and several other parts in the past wasn't enough $$ for a little free tech advice. Lesson learned.

63-S4 is the 3/8 pickup I use now, it has a dogleg bend in it and is real close to the bottom of the of the same pan sold by Summit up
Melling use to sell another pickup 3/8 inch that was straight with a different part number that was easier to install into stroker motors but I can't remember that part number now, CRS whiney

I like the straight pick-up that I used on my 493 with a street HEMI pan. I got mine from Summit but Mancini has them too Item #: MOPP4529565

Thanks, Cab - you mentioned the S4 in an old post but I was having a hard time finding any others to back it up. I’m assuming anyone who recommended the S3 was using a different pan or didn’t mind a little modification to the tube (or just confused the part numbers).

I would have bought the mopar tube but it’s on back order through the bigger vendors. Should I use a little rector-seal on the threads?

I don't use any sealer on the Melling and stock Mopar pickups, ever tsk
They both have N.P.T threads so screw them in until to you get the pickup height you want with it tight in the block boss and don't back it out wrench up
I like to have the bottom of the pickup within 1/8 to a max of 1/4 inch off the bottom of those oil pans like the factory service manuals call for up scope
I use the stock dipstick to measure the pickup through the drain plug hole, if it slides under the pickup with the thin flat part down and not with it sideways with the wide part up I'm good up wrench scope
