Thinking of buying an old cruiser...60s/70s land yacht, preferably a convertible That really limits my Mopar options, I know. For those who have been to various big shows/events, which do you think would give me a decent shot at finding a nice one? Hershey? One of the Carlisle shows? Has to be within about an 8 hour drive of NE Ohio. I'm not flying anywhere.

Hershey and Carlisle are both good options. There is the Auburn Indiana auction/swap /car corral if they still do it.I think it may be an RM event now. All makes and models it is on the fairgrounds with the Auburn /Cord museum.I haven't been there in several years but it was always a nice event.

I thought you were cured of the old car thing, judging by some of your older posts...
But welcome back to the madness laugh2
Hershey or Carlisle, sure; you might pay more there, but the selection could be better than at auctions, in terms of quality.
I'm wary of anything from the eastern US, but a sunny-day-only car may have escaped the ravages of weather.
I found the mint original car I just brought home through a restoration Q&A here, so networking among the finer folks here works if you have time.

I pretty much am, unless I find "the" car and it's a price I'm willing to pay. laugh2 It's either luxo-barge creampuff or nothing, unless oldjonny decides to sell his wagon. If I don't buy something like this, I'll look into a new Challenger or Camaro or Mustang.

Not sure if you're on Facebook but here's a link to an interesting wagon:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/139...f=notif&notif_t=group_comment_follow

If you're not on Facebook, here are details and pictures:

We are going to be selling our wagon . We bought this with the intent of it being the wife’s summer driver . It’s a bit to big for her to navigate today’s parking lots . It has 75k miles we are the 3rd owners . Has new brakes complete including drums master cylinder wheel cylinders, shoes/ hardware and brake booster . Has new tires , rebuilt carb . It’s a 383 2V 727 Dual exhaust. I have factory hub caps if you don’t like the poverty caps that I installed . The paint is in ok condition, it has had a re-spray over the original paint . The re-spray is at least 20 years old and showing some chipping and age . Ther is a few pin holes in the spare tire well , we touched that area up with POR-15 just to slow any growth. Interior is pretty nice , the drivers side seat is cracked but we have purchased the original vinyl from SMS in Portland . If car doesn’t sell then we will have the seat repaired detail it a bit more and try again . This car drives and handles great , we have done a couple 100 mile road trips and it glides along at 70-75 like it’s floating . Fuel gauge and temp temp light aren’t working , I’ve traced this down to the circuit board in the dash . I purchased an NOS board and will change this out before car is sold . Floors are solid no rust under the car that I have found . It’s an original Spokane car and this area is very easy on cars . Pm with any other questions if your a serious about the car send me your number and I’ll call . Let’s not forget it’s over 50 years old and is showing some age , but it’s not a pile or needing anything major . I’d drive this across country . $10,500.

Thank you for sharing that. It's way more of a project than I would want at this point though. Oldjonny (Moparts member) has the only wagon I'd be interested in. Anything else will be a GM convertible or coupe or sedan, maybe a Lincoln Mark IV or V, or a Chrysler product like a New Yorker.

Fair enough.

On those Mark Vs there is a fire hazard. The power seat switch/electrics is the weak culprit and have seen several burned by this fault. This article vaguely covers it here. https://www.hagerty.com/media/advice/piston-slap/avoid-disaster-by-cleaning-quirky-circuits/

i know of a 68 imperial convertible that MIGHT be for sale.
it might be to much work for you. hasn't been driven in about 10 years when it was kinda for sale. been stored inside for at least the last 25 years.

Cool car, but not looking for a project. Turnkey driver, preferably with original paint, etc. I figured Hershey, Carlisle, Auburn, maybe the Mopar Nats would be good venues.

Full size cars like you are looking for are definitely out there. And for not crazy money.

You just need to find one that the owner is in the mood to sell.

You may want to look beyond the car corral and look in the show/fun field. if you find one you like, make the guy a serious offer. You never know unless you ask. Worst he can do is say no.

True, even at dealers that sort of specialize in this kind of thing. For example

Well, a tub on vanilla ice cream will solve that, a root beer float.
