The dragstrip nearest to me has scale at their fuel station, which is near the end of the strip. Something I always noticed while down there filling up fuel jugs is that many mopars are heavier than their published weights, in some cases 4-5 hundred pounds more. Maybe that is added products such as reinforcements, maybe its overweight drivers, maybe it was a car full of friends or a trunk full of junk. In many cases, the as driven weight of a street car is going to be above what many believe their car weighs. Kind like the perception of horsepower. Everyone thinks they weigh less and makes more power than reality suggests.

Same goes for other brands “advertised” weights. And owners perception of what their car weighs

I weighed 20+ cars at Spring Fling Speed Festival. Can’t remember one that was lighter than owner expected. One of the lighter ones was a gutted non street legal 1st gen Camaro that didn’t have a cage yet. It was in the 2800-2900 range. No bumpers, dash, seats, grille, tail lights, interior, might have been missing some glass, etc.

I had my 70 Cuda 340-auto weighed on a scale at a towing place thirty years ago and it was 3350 lbs. The title says 3592 lbs. but the ac has been removed.

A guy over at FBBO objected to my disbelief that his '68 Satellite was 3300 lbs. He refused to say where he had it weighed but finally admitted that he was going by the published weights, not the actual weight of his car.
He later blocked me...I'm guessing that he found out the truth and didn't want me to remind him of it.

I had a '67 Satellite with a small block and fiberglass hood that weighed 3310 with half a tank of gas. This was the same scales I've observed other heavyweights on so yes, its possible some combinations are considerably lighter than others. In my observations, most of the classic 68-72 big block mopars that most find as the most desirable models tend to be just shy off or just over the 2 ton mark. This goes for E bodies as well as B bodies. I've seen quite a few 4000# Challengers out there.

My 66 New Yorker was 4800 on a CAT Scale. My 65 Polara wagon much to my surprise is 5000. I figured a 318 and very basic options it would be about the same, maybe a little less.

Actually, the reason I started looking into this is that I'm not satisfied with the ride quality I'm experiencing with the black '70 'Cuda. The rear suspension is still too harsh on the bigger bumps in the road.

I'm currently running two right side 3300 bs Super Stock springs with AFCO double adjustable shocks. I have these exact same springs on my '68 A-Body with Koni's, and they ride like a dream.

I just ordered a set of +2 ESPO HD springs, which are longer than what I have in there now. I tried the mono leaf Caltracs setup, but they were even harsher than the SS springs I'm running. If these don't do the trick, I'm going to order a custom set from Landrum springs. After that, I'll just live with it if I can't smooth out the ride.

All these suspension setups work well on smooth roads that move the suspension less than an inch or so, but any bumps that are larger than that really transmit into the car harshly. Its pretty brutal on most roads that aren't virtually smooth.

As for the lightweight, high horsepower ride, I have that covered with a 200hp, 535pound '06 Hayabusa that is bored, stroked and ported. I refer to that one as the real Rapid Transit System..

Transman, I was an original purchaser of an A12, My buddy and I took it to a truck weigh station
once. With headers, but pretty much everything else stock, if I remember it was 3550#. It was a hardtop.

Now mind you, I'm 79 years old, so I wouldn't wager on my memory.

Hi Joe,

How cool are you fella, someone who bought a NEW A12!

I had one of the ‘two Dodge A12’s’ here in the UK.
It was an auto converted to a manual, strange idea as the autos were much rarer.
I also had manual 69 Bee a few years later in the late 80’s too.
Cool cars indeed!

But my dream would be to get one of the 612 A12-Roadrunners...

One must always have a dream... XmasPengs

No matter how “heavy they are”” lol... drive

Thanks GTXX, it was a lot of fun while it lasted, I totaled it in Jan.71 driving in weather not suitable for that kind of power.
Also didn't help that I was out pounding down a few with my buddies Spent a week in the hospital waiting for the blood to
clear up in my urine, not to mention the stiches n one eyebrow. I was one sore body.

Anyhow, it was white, i think there were two whites that year, mine was the creamier one, with a black vinyl top,
I continued the black hood scheme over the cowl and under the grille.

It ran 13.6s at 106 pure stock at an unprepped track, Thompson drag raceway, still open.
After some work; SSH25 cam, Prestolite ign. Hooker fenderwell headers, dist. and carb massaging, a LOT of timing
it ran a best of 12.85 at 112 with stock Goodyears and a reverse manual 727.

Nice to re-live that time, thanks, Joe

decades ago, a friend of mine was buying some HEMI parts for a '69 Road Runner from a guy in Wooster? Ohio that had a Challenger funny car

he also bought a rear seat & it had a broadcast sheet in it from a '69 A12 Road Runner: RM23M9A283593 440 6bbl automatic W1 "alpine white" w/black bench seat interior - it appears the only other OPTION was an AM radio

the funny car guy didn't know of the 6bbl Road Runner & it didn't match the car it came out of work sound familiar? Joe, do you know the VIN of your old RR?

I think I took a pic of the window sticker, but finding that now will be a chore after
60 years of accumulation LOL.

Does the sheet show a black vinyl top?
I did a lot of racing in the 60s and early 70s and don't remember a white RR
being around my area.

Mine was AM radio too, black bench, column shift.

Thanks, Joe

PS It was one of the early ones, by buddy sold for Halpert Chry-Ply in Willoughby
and alerted me. I got delivery on the same truck that his green 440 Baracuda came on, I have that
pic somewhere too.

That’s pretty darn close to my car. The NHRA factory shipping weight is 3549 all stock.

It would be awesome to see any original papers you may come up with in the future.

A local dealer, Albro C-P in Mt. Clemens MI had an Alpine White RR with column auto and an orange RR, still on the lot mid to late summer of 69.
I visited them a few times before they were sold. Didn’t have the funds to buy one, still in high school.

Didn’t get one until April 71. Still have it.

no vinyl top on the b'cast sheet

I grew up in Eastlake & spent many summers at the "West End YMCA" across the street from Halpert - I bought a '79 Aspen R/T from Halpert's used car lot

They are all heavier than you would think. The heaviest my 68 barracuda fastback has ever been was 3400 lbs with small block/auto 3/4 of a tank without driver. Now 3200 at race weight without driver. I have a set of scales.
