If my current 440-1 heads need to be replaced i sure would like to reuse the valvetrain i have. There are differences like intake valve location and less angle on the valves. If the intake rockers have more offset built into the rocker body then it might not be possible. I use shims to center the intakes so i have some room to move them. The other issues may be length of the rockers from shaft to roller tip? Any other issues that may come up? If i recall the 572-13 heads use the same casting as a 440-1, which makes me think it may be doable. The other question would be valve reliefs. 2 degree angle change and .050 move on the intakes. Thoughts?

I hope there is nothing wrong with your current 440-1 heads. They have lots of good work done to them.
I don't know if Jesel sells different rockers, rocker stand, etc. for the two different Indy heads. But my T&D catalog shows they sell a different set. The valves for the -13’s are moved closer to the bore center, and the valves are farther apart(-13’s will accept a 2.35/1.88 valve combo).
You should look up the part numbers for the Jesel mounting plate...... that might give a clue as to how similar that rocker system is....... or isn’t.

If the valve tip locations have changed then the mounting bars may have a different location. Sounds like i need a 572 head for comparison.

Stands are not the same and have different part numbers. Rockers for the 572 have more offset. You can make it run, but you have to really cram them in there to the point it pinches the roller bearing clips. I had a customer bring in a motor where they had done this and they were completely trashed. I mean like cracked rocker bodies and messed up bearings. Worst set of Jesel Rockers I have ever seen. Had to have Jesel Completely rebuild them. The geometry is not horrible and you have to shim the stands up but that side clearance is a real mess. Call up Jesel and talk to them. Pretty sure they will advise against it. NOT saying it cannot possibly work but I would advise against it. Sorry. Todd Don't forget that 572 valves are also longer with MOST 440-1 valves at 5.345/5.370 and 572 valves at 5.4950/5.525 and larger as well. Todd

It does sound like the costs would out weigh the savings, given all the differences. One thing i do have going for it- my intake rockers were spot faced to use spacer washers directly against the rocker bodies rather than those C clips and spacers' which would allow me to properly space them. If the exhaust also move that might be doable as well.

I think you would be best off selling what you have, and ordering new? Has to be a demand for good used parts like that.

Last fall you may recall i blew a headgasket and damaged a head a bit. I still haven't gotten word if the damage can be fixed. So i may need a replacement head and am thinking of alternatives. Hopefully the repair goes well. Getting any parts could be a long wait. Entire new Jesel set for 572-13 or some parts to change yours over to that configuration (if feasible). Crazy supply issues now-a-days.

Crazy supply issues now-a-days. I just got off the phone with Indy cyl heads. They said that originally the 572 heads used the same parts from Jesel, i assume they made adjustment for the intake valve placement with different mini shafts. So my worst case situation would be to try set up the 440-1 jesel stuff on the 572 head, and if i hit an unsolveable problem sell the 440-1 stuff and buy 572-13 parts. So with all this said i hope someone answers 440Jims post on valve placement .
