Wife and I will be traveling probably some time in June from Frederick, MD to Advance, NC. We have a few stops planned along the way, but was looking for suggestions of places to explore along the way.

Monticello is totally worth the side trip - Thomas Jefferson's home. James Monroe's place is nearby but not nearly as impressive.

Good time of year for Skyline drive scenery wise. Thrashing a rental is better done off season.

If you have never been there, Luray Caverns is a great place to visit.
